The selected candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of scholars and professionals working at the crossroad of jurilinguistics, law and access to justice, under the auspice of the Graduate Diploma in Legal Translation. We seek a qualified scholar or practitioner, with a background in translation, law or other relevant fields, such as languages, political sciences, administration, social studies, etc. (see projects list to establish relevancies), to contribute to the academic programming and broader goals of our various initiatives.Terms and start date: This is a part-time position with an initial one-year contract. The number of hours worked per week will be established based on the candidate availability and the needs of the various projects. Desired start date is April 1, 2025; however, actual start date will depend on the timing of hiring and availability of the successful candidate.Remuneration: $50 000-$70 000 annually. Remuneration will be based on candidate experience and hours of work per week.About SCS and the GDLT: The School of Continuing Studies (SCS) offers a unique 30-credit Graduate Diploma in Legal Translation (GDLT) designed to provide aspiring and working legal language professionals with specialized training to enrich their current portfolio and fast-track their career. The GDLT team also leads various related initiatives, such as workshops for legal language specialists, activities to enhance visibility of the legal language professionals within the Canadian Interuniversity Alliance for Advancement of Legal Language professions and other applied research projects focused on jurilinguistics and access to justice for official language minority communities. The GDLT is part of the Global and Strategic Communication Domain at SCS. The GSC domain also supports applied language learning in subjects such as law and health. The SCS offers a range of programs including in public relations, management and entrepreneurship, finance and accounting, human resources, and public administration.Responsibilities: The successful candidate will collaborate with the Academic Program Coordinator of the Graduate Diploma in Legal Translation and report directly to the Academic Director of the Global and Strategic Communication (GSC) domain.General coordination tasks may involve the following:development and review of academic programs, for example:administration of the entrance examination and admissionpedagogical assistanceextracurricular projectsThose tasks will be performed as part of:the GDLT and assimilated projects (workshops for legal language professionals and mandate of the Canadian interuniversity alliance for the legal language professions)the management of other programmings at GSC in collaboration with the respective program coordinatorsthe management of the research lab on access to justice “Activateur” and assimilated projects (focused on jurilinguistics and access to justice, from all sorts of perspectives, from legal to educational, and economical and political)Education/Experience RequiredMaster’s degree or PhD in Translation Studies, Law or other relevant discipline (languages, political sciences, administration, social studies, etc.) (in progress or completed)Minimum three years of relevant experience, preferably in a university contextOther Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:Excellent communication skills in French and English, oral and written.
