Title: Senior Specialist, Clinical Services – Health in Emergencies (HiE)

Employee Working Location: Partially Virtual / Hybrid (Canada)

Employment Status: Temporary Full-time (Till 31st March 2026)

In this role, while not deployed you will:

  • Provide input on clinical operations across Canada and support operational leads with planning and design.
  • Contribute as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) by drafting, updating, and maintaining clinical SOPs in line with guidelines.
  • Maintain communication with HiE Roster Managers and help monitor readiness for clinical deployments.
  • Stay updated on licensing requirements for healthcare professionals and review clinical learning paths for compliance.
  • Review and offer amendments where needed to clinical learning paths as applicable to specific provincial response operations ensuring CRC compliance with provincial /Territorial Health Authority requirements and the provincial legislative framework.
  • Provide SME clinical support to CRC projects.

In this role, during deployment to emergency operations, up to 50%, you will:

  • Work within the defined clinical profile requested, and scope of practice while providing appropriate, culturally safe patient care.
  • Lead clinical assessments, implement clinical services, and supervise, mentor, and train clinical, non-clinical, and auxiliary personnel.
  • Liaise with partner agencies on clinical issues, acting as a resource between clinicians and roster managers, and stay updated on regulatory changes.
  • Coordinate with on-site clinical team leads to address operational issues.
  • Ensure consistency with clinical guidelines and support the implementation of new procedures, observing health authority and CRC protocols.
  • Manage medical supplies, ensuring they are stored, monitored, and replenished according to best practices and guidelines.

What we are looking for:

  • Qualifications include a minimum of 4 years clinical experience and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Bachelor of Nursing (BN), or Diplome d’Études Collégiales (DEC) in Nursing, or BNI (DEC-BAC).
  • Current Professional Registration in one province in Canada is required.
  • Professional certification or post-graduate qualification in public health, nursing, emergency management, epidemiology, or another relevant field is an asset.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Experience in health needs assessment and the design of health programming, particularly vaccinations, testing or contact tracing.
  • Ability to coordinate with authorities and foster effective working relationships with health stakeholders at various levels.
  • Ability to research and collaborate to identify complex problems, analyze interrelated factors using specialized skills, and develop solutions
  • Training, facilitation, coaching, and education skills are an asset.
  • Able to travel on short notice to other destinations within the province for periods of several weeks (2-6 weeks) is a requirement up to 50% of FTE.
  • Fluency in English is required. Bilingual proficiency in French is preferred. Ability to communicate in Cree, Ojibway, Oji Cree, Inuktitut, or other Indigenous language is an asset.
  • Experience living or working in a cultural context other than their own, experience working in Indigenous Communities, and/or in remote and isolated communities in Canada is an asset.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Will be working primarily in an office environment when not deployed to emergency responses.
  • Travel to both natural disasters, northern Canada, epidemic and other types of responses on short notice will be frequently required. Field deployments can involve working in environments that are unstable and with unpredictable access to basic services in emergency contexts.
  • All teams contribute to emergency response efforts directly or indirectly.
  • All CRC roles are required to adapt work and priorities to support emergency response efforts, be present in person as required to support service delivery and deploy to emergency responses when appropriate and/or required (personnel availability and request for exceptions will be discussed with line management).
  • For CRC roles that are assigned a function in the Emergency Relief operational structure (in field and virtual), personnel may be required to be part of an on-call roster and be available for scheduled on-call work.
