Independent ContractJoin Our TeamTELUS Health is in search of a dedicated Indigenous Peoples Counsellor to join our Critical Incident Affiliate Network. This role is a unique opportunity to provide culturally sensitive support and enhance the well-being of Indigenous communities across Ontario, on a casual, contract basis.The Impact You’ll MakeAs a Crisis Intervention & Cultural Support Counsellor, you will:Deliver rapid on-site support to communities in need.Conduct debriefings and provide psychological first aid.Guide post-incident recovery.Offer professional counseling services on an as-needed basis.Support organizational and community well-being initiatives within First Nations (status and non-status), Métis, and Inuit communities.ResponsibilitiesCrisis Support: Provide in-person crisis intervention including case management, client intake, needs assessment, safety planning, and emotional support.Client Referrals: Seamlessly refer clients to longer-term community support services as required.Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong working relationships with key partners, community groups, and individuals with lived experience.Documentation: Manage workflow of each assigned case and maintain administrative requirements as required by TELUS Health.Public Awareness: Participate in the organization’s public awareness activities and client wellness initiatives in the community.Workplace Assessment: Perform preliminary assessments, offer coaching, support to managers, and implement post-traumatic interventions.QualificationsMaster’s degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field; or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent work/life experienceActive membership in good standing with OCSWSSW or CRPO, and valid professional liability insuranceMinimum of five (5) years experience in crisis intervention, trauma response, or organizational psychologySpecialized training in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), Psychological First Aid, or similar crisis response methodologiesDemonstrated expertise in trauma-informed care, group counseling, debriefing, and defusingDeep understanding of Indigenous history, culture, and traditional teachingsComprehensive knowledge of the criminal justice system, child welfare, and community support servicesProven commitment to anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and gender-inclusive practicesProfound understanding of intergenerational trauma and systemic barriers faced by BIPOC individualsExceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact sensitively with diverse populationsStrong organizational abilities, including capacity to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaborativelyProficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other relevant computer applicationsValid driver’s license and ability to travel across Ontario with short noticeWhy Partner with TELUS Health:Maintain your independence while accessing the resources of a leading healthcare organization.Contribute to a diverse network that values your unique perspective and expertise.Access premium clinical supervision opportunities & utilize cutting-edge online professional development resources.Join a rapidly growing network, opening doors to new professional connections and client bases.Competitive compensation, including travel and no-show coverage and a streamlined, hassle-free invoicing processMake a significant difference in your local community.Balance your existing practice with rewarding contract work.Reduced administrative burden so you can focus on client care while we handle the paperwork.Collaborate with a purpose-driven organization dedicated to making a positive impact on people’s lives.A bit about usWe’re a people-focused, customer-first, purpose-driven team who works together every day to innovate and do good.
