The selected candidate will facilitate research in computer vision and machine learning with a focus on multi-modal large language models. The candidate will evaluate existing solutions for studying datasets and drive the development of tools based on advancements in multi-modal large language models. The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Siam and collaborate with the Geoinformatics team at the RIKEN Centre to apply the developed tool for remote sensing applications. The overall goal is to reduce the environmental impact of training vision foundation models by examining broad datasets used before large-scale model training.Organizational Status
Reports to the Faculty supervisor, Dr. Siam. Administratively reports to the Director, Finance & Administration.Work PerformedSupport literature reviews by gathering and synthesizing relevant works, summarizing findings, and providing insights that inform the direction of research on multi-model large language models.Develop and implement a dataset assessment tool that is broadly applicable across multiple research applications, ensuring that the tool enhances model performance and data efficiency.Evaluate datasets for vision foundation models, supporting the optimization of training efficiency and helping to manage computational cost considerations for large-scale training.Coordinate with researchers from other disciplines, particularly those specializing in remote sensing, to facilitate the integration of the dataset assessment tool into their applications.Prepare research findings for publication in leading computer vision conferences, such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, and peer-reviewed journals, supporting the writing, editing, and preparation of research materials.Participate in weekly group meetings and other regularly scheduled stand up meetings.Consequence of Error/Judgement
Poor performance will seriously impact the ability of the project to achieve its goal which will consequently impact other project partners involved.Supervision Received
Tasks and targets set are reviewed at weekly meetings with the Faculty supervisor. Supervision consists mainly of general directions; initiative and self-reliance expected of the incumbent.Supervision Given
May be required to supervise students and/or staff hired to do research and laboratory activities related to the project. Assist in ongoing work with students in IVU Lab.Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.– Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own– Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred Qualifications– PhD in Computer Science or a related field.– Proficiency in Python programming and PyTorch library.– Strong Computer Vision background.– Strong mathematical understanding and skills in applying Machine Learning/Deep Learning solutions.– Having established research in the field with publications in top/mid-tier conferences e.g., CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, WACV.– Sound written and verbal communication skills necessary. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a research team environment is important. Team facilitation, interpersonal and organizational skills are important.
