One study is focused on examining the importance of non-native nectar in the diet of the monarch butterfly (field and greenhouse work). Another project will be focused on examining the effects of warming on the monarch butterfly and its host plant- milkweed (greenhouse and/or laboratory work).Location:This project will be conducted at the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, and with fieldwork in the National Capital Region.Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in fieldwork on butterflies and their host plants.
  • Conducting butterfly feeding trials in the field or greenhouse
  • General butterfly and plant care duties
  • General data entry and bibliographic duties

Requirements:

  • Drivers licence (G)
  • Must be detail-oriented and reliable to ensure accurate data collection and to ensure tracking of samples and data.
  • Student will be handling chemicals. Workplace safety training (e.g. WHMIS) must be completed at the beginning of the work period.
  • Prior field and/or lab experience (particularly in ecology) would be an asset.
