Work ArrangementsThe Faculty of Health Sciences is seeking a Curriculum Coordinator for the department of Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing (BSPN). This position takes effect September 1, 2025 for an initial one year term with the possibility of an extension(s) up to a maximum of three years. This role has seven (6) sections of time release available for the 2025-2026 academic year with the potential to teach one (2) section on the BSN Program.The primary place of work will be Coquitlam Campus.

The RoleThe Faculty of Health Sciences invites applications for a Curriculum Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing Program.The faculty member in this position is responsible for facilitating the development, implementation and evaluation of the BSPN programs. The faculty member in this position has:

  • the responsibility to seek collegial decisions
  • the authority to act on emergency issues requiring a decision, pending collegial resolution of the issue
  • the responsibility to implement collegial decisions

Specific Responsibilities Operational Management
For both BSPN and degree completion programs: * Leads all activities and processes for the development and implementation of programs and courses.

  • Participates in the long-range plans for program development, ensuring they are consistent with College policies, British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Professional Standards, Code of Ethics, Scope of Practice and entry-level competencies
  • Participates in DOPN strategic planning process.
  • Collaborates with the Coordinating Committee regarding Program Approval processes including BCCNM program approval, Douglas College Comprehensive Review and other accreditation approval processes as they arise.
  • Plans, organizes and leads the departmental goals and activities for Curriculum Development and organizes and chairs May Curriculum Development for all Faculty.
  • Collaborates annually with the Staffing and Student Coordinator and the Program Support and Services Specialist to maintain currency of the information book, online catalogue and BSPN website.
  • Provides advice to Coordinating Committee members on matters related to curriculum.
  • In collaboration with DOPN Coordination team, faculty and other relevant partners, identifies new course offerings, program initiatives, and relevant curriculum initiatives.
  • Provides interim relief for other department coordination positions as required for vacation relief or emergency purposes.

Curriculum and EvaluationFor both BSPN and Degree Completion programs: * Coordinates and facilitates faculty Curriculum Development ensuring that outcomes are congruent with approved curriculum and program structure.

  • Coordinates the selection and ordering of course resources.
  • Ensures the currency of curriculum guidelines and course syllabi.
  • Provides support to DOPN faculty related to Curriculum Navigator.
  • Monitors and reports on the quality of the curriculum implementation of all DOPN programs concerning consistency with DOPN philosophy and DOPN curriculum conceptual framework, also ensuring currency and congruency with standards of practice and directions of the regulatory college (BCCNM).
  • Coordinates evaluation processes and collaborate with Health Sciences Learning Strategies and Evaluation Coordinator to ensure effective program evaluation processes.
  • Analyzes evaluation data from internal and external partners and coordinates the implementation of revisions to the curriculum, as needed.
  • Participates in planning activities for the implementation of programs.
  • In collaboration with the LPN Coordinator, oversees the LPN curriculum development and governance of courses.

Departmental – Faculty RelationsFor both BSPN and Degree Completion programs:

  • Provides mentorship and support to faculty related curriculum, teaching and learning.
  • Mentors faculty in the implementation of the curriculum and scholarly activity development processes.
  • Liaises and collaborates with Health Science Coordinators (Practice Placement, Learning Strategy and Evaluation, and Experiential) to ensure the application of best practices and resources for students.
  • Assists faculty with the interpretation and implementation of PNUR Requirements/Protocols and College Policies.

External Liaison
For both BSPN and Degree Completion programs: * Liaises with the BCCNM and other professional/accreditation groups and nursing programs regarding curriculum and program evaluation.

  • Works in collaboration with faculty and administration to implement Program Advisory Committee recommendations as appropriate.
  • Participates in recruitment and information sessions as required.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need * Current RPN/RN registration with BCCNM. If Selections Committee deems candidates applying for a position equitable in all respects, RPN registration is preferred.

  • Master’s Degree required, Doctorate/PhD preferred in nursing or related field.
  • A minimum of five years of recent post-secondary (or equivalent) teaching experience in psychiatric nursing with a demonstrated understanding of a variety of current educational methodologies.
  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience with a preference for experience in a variety of nursing practice areas.
  • Demonstrated leadership competence.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Demonstrated positive and effective interpersonal and networking skills, including teamwork and conflict resolution skills.
  • Working knowledge of all streams of Douglas College Psychiatric Nursing Programs.
  • Experience in curriculum development and program evaluation; approvals or accreditation experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated self-direction, motivation, initiative and creativity.
  • In-depth knowledge related to RPN context and scope of practice.
  • Demonstrated advocacy and commitment to the psychiatric nursing profession.
  • Knowledge of mental health needs and services throughout British Columbia and Canada.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of cultural safety and humility, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the context of education and psychiatric nursing practice.
  • Represent the values, goals, and philosophy of the Psychiatric Nursing department, Health Sciences, and Douglas College.
