Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, Toronto Metropolitan University Libraries invites applications for a full-time career stream (i.e. continuing) position of Digital Experience Librarian at the rank of Librarian I or II, effective March 1, 2026, subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will enhance Toronto Metropolitan University Libraries online presence through user-focused improvements that support resource discovery and academic research services. As part of the TMU Libraries’ Information Technology Services Department, this role emphasizes collaboration with various librarians, library departments, and the University’s central Information Technology Department to maintain and improve web projects, implement new designs, and optimize user experiences. The incumbent will also advise on best practices for usability, accessibility, and emerging web technologies while actively contributing to library-wide digital initiatives.

Key responsibilities include managing and transforming web content, improving workflows, conducting usability studies, analyzing usage data, and providing documentation and training for the content management system and online library tools. TMU Libraries supports Open Initiatives such as open access, open education, etc. at the University. The Digital Experience Librarian will assist with managing the Libraries’ open publishing platform and tools and will liaise with faculty and librarians to provide training and support. Additionally, the librarian will collaborate with faculty and librarians to develop and maintain web-based Scholarly, Research, and Creative (SRC) initiatives.

The Libraries IT Services Department falls under the direction of the Associate Dean of Libraries for SRC. This role may involve liaison work which includes providing expertise in discipline-specific reference, research consultation, library instruction, collection development and collaborative support of academic programs within the team of liaison librarians. Librarians actively contribute to providing research assistance through both in-person and virtual service points, and may occasionally be required to work non-standard hours, including weekends and evenings. Career Librarians are also expected to participate in library and university committees and engage in professional development and/or scholarly research and creative activities.

Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited library school with a MLS/MLIS/MISt degree or acceptable ALA recognized equivalent. In addition, the candidate must present evidence of the following:

Relevant experience in an academic, public, government, or corporate setting.

Digital experience:

Demonstrated expertise in digital services management including optimization, usability, accessibility, and digital initiatives.
Proven project management skills with a demonstrated history of implementing complex projects on time and within scope.
Experience in monitoring and assessing emerging digital technologies and their application in a library setting.
Experience in developing, implementing, and applying web style guides and branding standards in a collaborative environment.
Demonstrated skill in conducting usability studies (planning, execution, analysis) in a variety of digital environments and applying findings to improve user experience.
Experience with digital content migration, maintenance, and implementing tooling / strategies for managing and transforming content.
Proven ability to develop clear documentation and deliver effective technical training to diverse staff groups on library content management systems and online tools.
Thorough knowledge of current web accessibility standards and best practices for usability.
Demonstrated troubleshooting and technical support experience with WordPress or similar content management / publishing platforms.
Proven ability to collaborate with faculty and librarians on the development of scholarly projects on various online platforms and provide training on content management and publishing platforms.
Strong interdepartmental liaison skills and experience aligning digital projects with broader institutional IT goals.

Preferred experience:

Experience with collection development.
Experience developing and delivering instructional programming.
Proficiency with instructional technologies.
Demonstrated understanding of the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
Flexibility and creativity in adapting to evolving staffing, liaison models, and emerging technologies.

The salary ranges for Librarian I and Librarian II are as follows and salary will commensurate with qualifications:

Librarian I: $78,586.69 to $116,905.82 per annum.

Librarian II: $87,679.38 to $183,152.46 per annum.
