OverviewAvison Young is currently seeking a Director, Business Development Occupier Solutions – Canada to manage and grow our Occupier Solutions. Preferred candidates have experience developing, executing and leading successful business development strategies to expand our Occupier Solutions group while possessing excellent leadership skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong business acumen and be able to lead and manage with expertise and credibility. The Director, Business Development acts as a corporate advocate for Avison Young and must understand, communicate, and promote the Avison Young mission. The candidate should participate in and expect frequent communication and engagement with others, while identifying new opportunities across Avison Young services. Versatility is desired as much time will be spent bringing together a multitude of talents and must be willing to adapt the talents to changing assignments as required. The successful candidate will be people-oriented and have significant experience working with a wide range of people, from diverse backgrounds, and possess ability to achieve “win-win” outcomes. As the job requires assertiveness and a “will to win” in dealing with highly competitive situations, a competitive attitude is key.ResponsibilitiesOrigination and new business development
- Identifies and engages targeted companies.
- Implement a strategic targeting approach that leverages research to identify the best targets to pursue.
- Move and progress opportunities through various Sales stages.
- Help resources, prepare, and participate in major business development opportunities for both existing clients and new business, while working in conjunction with brokerage and other business units of Avison Young.
- Identify opportunities to sell additional services to existing clients through cross-selling.
- Originate new business across service lines including direct accountability for new revenue and pipeline opportunities.
- Understands financial, HR, legal, administrative, operational, sales resources, and systems and applies this acumen by investing time and effort to effectively achieve EBITDA targets
- Revenue targets are established annually for each occupier service line. Service lines include tenant representation, lease administration, lease management, project management, multi-market transaction management, real estate legal services, workplace consultancy, advisory, and portfolio management.
- Responsible for prospect outreach and communication – critical to work and communicate with our brokers and professionals in pursuits.
- Provide insights on RFPs and whether they are “go/no go” decisions.
Proposal management & opportunity tracking
- Takes a leadership role with pursuits and proposals.
- Responsible for the oversight and timely delivery of all proposals, working with service line leaders and brokers with key relationships.
- Ensure Avison Young is properly communicating value proposition and overall differentiation within the marketplace and communications.
- Responsible for the accuracy of the data in Hubspot/CRM system allowing leadership across our markets and business lines to better manage and leverage their business and provide transparency and visibility through pipeline for business planning.
- Seeks innovation and best practices across all areas of the role.
- Bring new ideas and thinking to client work and internal processes and operations as appropriate.
Business management & opportunity tracking
- Builds relationships with key clients, industry organizations, teaming partners and stakeholders to identify opportunities and growth for business.
- Builds relationships with key leaders of other divisions at Avison Young locally and nationally to better leverage existing relationships and developing opportunities.
- Is a credible expert among experts and has a positive reputation in the market and within the organization. Must stay engaged, visible, competent, fair, people-savvy, influential, and persuasive to advance the business, culture and standing of Avison Young.
- Promote and lead engagement with all staff in the company’s corporate initiatives & programs.
- Champion, defend and advance the Avison Young brand and culture both internally and in the market, promoting and protecting its reputation, health, and overall value of the enterprise at all times.
- Understands and embraces our goal of being globally consistent and locally relevant by effectively using communications and the ability to promote Avison Young mission, goals, and strategies, making them relevant to Brokers and Staff by integrating corporate messages and goals into communications (literature, presentations, website, discussions, meetings, recruiting ads, and retention efforts), while encouraging participation in Affinity Groups.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years in Business Development role
- Minimum 5 years in Bus. Dev. strategy design and execution in services
- A proven and successful track record in Commercial Real Estate or adjacent industry
- A demonstrated successful track record of sales skills and the sales cycle
- Strong understanding of the industry and Occupier Solutions

Education:
- BA/BS in Business, Finance, Real Estate, or related field
- MBA preferred
