As the Doris Dohrenwend Intern – Chinese Art & Culture, you will provide essential support to our Curator of Chinese Art & Culture and Collection Specialist on projects centred around Chinese collections. You will gain hands-on training using The Museum System (TMS) and acquire valuable daily experience in museum operations. Additionally, this position presents an excellent networking opportunity within the museum and academic fields, opening doors to future career pathways in art and culture.HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Assist in researching, photographing, and cataloguing Chinese collection-based projects.
  • Reorganizing and renumbering George Crofts photo and archival materials.
  • Compile bibliography and research materials for George Crofts project.
  • Assist in creating, organizing & updating object records in TMS database.
  • Assist in curatorial cataloguing and researching for various projects.
  • Provide regular updates to the curator on research status and outcomes.
  • Assist curator with additional projects and day-to-day activities.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, history, East Asia Studies, or a related subject area is required.
  • Must currently be enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program, or have recently graduated from a Master’s program.
  • General knowledge of Chinese history and art history.
  • Sufficient knowledge of Chinese language.
  • Ability to work independently and conduct ongoing research with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with or an understanding of collection database programs and adherence to database standards is advantageous.
  • Experience in proper handling of artworks and artifacts is an asset.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and research skills.

SALARY & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • START DATE: May 20, 2025, to August 30, 2025
  • OPEN DATE: March 7, 2025
  • CLOSE DATE: April 4, 2025
  • STATUS: Part-time Contract
  • EMPLOYEE GROUP: Non-Union
  • HOURLY RATE: $22/hour (MA) or $24/hour (PhD)
  • SCHEDULE: 3 days a week, up to 24 hours weekly
  • LOCATION (Onsite): Toronto, ON
