Description :This role involves conducting investigations into service failures, implementing proactive measures to prevent future issues, and managing day-to-day cargo operations, including dangerous goods handling, inventory, and coordination with other stations and third-party providers. Additionally, the role ensures employee compliance with training, supports administrative functions such as audits, scheduling, and invoicing, and collaborates with various departments and contractors to maintain customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. In the absence of the Station Manager, this position acts as the senior leader of the base, overseeing all operational and administrative activities.Reporting to: Station Manager, YEG*Non-bargainingDuties and Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight and support for all flight operations and ensures that cargo and airport operations are performed in accordance with all regulatory, company and customer requirements
- Able to conduct detailed investigations into cargo service/process failures, provide root cause analysis and provide possible recovery options
- Avoid potential future service failure occurrences, by taking a proactive, forward-looking approach to all operational activities
- Responsible to assist with all day-to-day cargo operations and dangerous goods clearance, cargo movement, inventory and to coordinate these activities, in conjunction with other stations.
- Provide cargo forecast information to third party service providers
- Attend cargo planning meetings, as required
- Responsible to ensure all cargo employees are compliant with training (i.e. safety, dangerous goods, departmental, equipment, security, etc.)
- Provide support functions including, completion of audits, checklists but not limited to: scheduling/roster planning, timesheet/payroll review, uniform ordering/distribution, etc.
- Coordinate with other departments and third-party contractors to ensure that customer satisfaction and on time cargo performance are maintained.
- Conduct new employee orientation and onboarding
- Coordinate customer invoicing for adhoc/third party services/equipment
- Responsible for compliance with Station Controls and Internal Audit Standards
Skills and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in aviation management, logistics, or a related field is preferred or High School diploma or equivalent related work experience;
- 4-5 years of previous experience;
- Fully proficient computer skills, MSOffice and superior operating knowledge of Skyline & Sabre;
- Demonstrated operational experience, including cargo / airport operations, dangerous goods handling/transport, load control, weight & balance, SMS(AQD) knowledge;
- Certified in dangerous goods acceptance / shipping;
- Committed to excellent internal & external customer service;
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines;
- Strong investigative abilities and effective corrective action plan implementation;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written & spoken);
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to coach and motivate others;
- Excellent relationship building skills with internal/external partners;
- Willingness and ability to travel;
- Experience supervising in a unionized environment;
- Valid driver’s license;
- Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
