As an Engineer, you provide a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System. The Engineer performs technical studies and assessments; participates in short- and long-range strategic planning; drives initiatives and innovative projects; prepares engineering, technical or business reports and studies; and demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and support key Intelligent Grid Initiatives by leading technical discussions, scoping projects, and managing overall project progress
  • Perform system studies to ensure the safe, reliable, efficient and economical operation of our distribution system (i.e., Protection and Coordination studies, Short Circuit studies, Arc Flash studies, Load Flow analysis)
  • Review and perform quality checks on study results and reports as produced by other team members
  • Liaise with customers, planners, technical consultants, and internal stakeholders to support projects
  • Stay abreast of trends and technical innovations that translate into business development opportunities
  • Justify, defend and manage capital programs
  • Propose and evaluate grid solutions to enhance grid reliability and efficiency
  • Prepare engineering, technical or business reports and studies; performs analysis, testing and evaluations
  • Provide timely technical support and consultation through effective project management and the development of process efficiencies
  • Pursue a high level of internal and external client satisfaction, and foster a customer-centric focus
  • Reviews, develops and/or presents business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures and practices
  • Manage relationships with inter-organizational business units and external customers as required
  • Active participation in industry working groups and committees to keep apprised of industry best practices and influence policy development and decision making
  • Support the continued development and improvement of network analysis systems and tools
  • Provide technical support or leadership on strategic technical projects
  • May be called upon to act as a team or project leader

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred)
  • Five (5) or more years of Engineering experience, preferably in the utilities industry
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of general utility business, knowledge of electrical distribution system design and operation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the design and specification of protection, coordination and control systems used in power distribution and electrical substations
  • Knowledge and experience with distribution systems analyses such as short circuit, protection & coordination, load flow and arc flash, etc.
  • Knowledge of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs)
  • Valid Class “G” Drivers License recommended
  • Experience with grid automation and SCADA/DMS systems
  • Experience in the use of power distribution network analysis software, such as CYME
  • Fluent in the application of information technology, such as general office software, and engineering records
  • Excellent understanding of Toronto Hydro’s Conditions of Service and Standards
  • Excellent relationship management, customer service excellence and key account management skills
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal/written communications skills
  • Effective skills in project management operations, budgeting, business process and productivity improvements
  • Aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing and facilitating change demonstrated through self-motivation and stakeholder management
  • Ability to predict and understand technological trends and their effect on business or strategic work plans
  • Knowledge and experience in Alteryx and Tableau is preferred
  • Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence and can visualize possibilities and opportunities
  • Demonstrated versatile leadership; encourages organizational teamwork, exemplifies collaboration and educated risk taking to develop innovative solutions and support the corporate goals
  • Excellent analytical, organization and planning skills
  • Proven effective problem-solving and analytical ability
  • Ability to predict and understand technological trends and their effect on business or strategic work plans

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs.
