Multiple researchers from different institutions are working on three themes and 15 projects. The Financial analyst has an essential role to monitor the MIF budget and provide documentation for the annual report.The position will focus on monitoring the Major Innovation Fund program, RCES project budget (annual budget approximately 2.4 M) and annual reporting. The candidate will be working closely with the supervisor, project leads and researchers to reach project goals. The candidate might be expected to provide assistance to researchers. The candidate is also expected to communicate with the Financial and Research Services departments to prepare an annual report.DutiesMain tasks:

  • Maintain records of commitments on research projects.
  • Maintain appropriate records management and compliance for research and financial documentation.
  • Assist with financial monitoring and processing for restricted and endowed research projects and programs.
  • Advises staff and faculty members on account statuses and provides reporting.
  • Assist project holders in project financial and budget-related transactions and work with finance partners and the RAS; including but not limited to project creation, extension, claims, credit card reconciliations, etc.

Assist:

  • Provides pre and post awards to academic researchers.
  • Addresses routine issues related to visiting scholars, postdoctoral fellows, and others (eg. completing immigration requests, letters of invitation, requesting CCID, requesting space allocations).
  • Assists with travel arrangements for visitors, processing expense payments for events and guests, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A diploma (Administrative diploma program) is required, with a preference for candidates who hold a bachelor’s degree. A combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in comparable administrative positions in the Advanced Education field relating to financial management of research projects
  • Knowledge and skills in accounting, bookkeeping and financial control
  • Knowledge of Accounting Software and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Capability for critical thinking and analysis of project budgets
  • Strong organization, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work effectively
  • Self-motivated

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in accounting, office systems, business communication, administration and financial management will be considered as an asset
