Aston Carter’s large client is seeking a Financial Reporting Consultant to join their team! The Financial Reporting Consultant will be an essential part in enhancing and standardizing processes. This person will assist in timely and accurate monthly consolidation, and preparing quarterly and annual financial disclosures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate existing accounting and reporting procedures, pinpointing areas for enhancement and actively participating in initiatives aimed at boosting the efficiency and effectiveness of company processes.

  • Facilitate the consolidated month-end closing process by preparing or reviewing monthly financial reporting packages, conducting variance analyses, corporate reconciliations, and journal entries related to financial instruments, stock-based compensation, debt, and other complex accounting matters.

  • Aid in the preparation and review of quarterly consolidated financial statements, which includes financial statement note disclosures and the Management’s Discussion and Analysis.

  • Contribute to the design, testing, and implementation of modifications to accounting and finance systems as needed.

  • Perform analyses and generate reports in response to management requests concerning special projects and ad hoc inquiries.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • A university degree in Accounting or a related business field, along with a CPA or CA designation, is required.

  • At least 8-10 years of experience is necessary, ideally within a high-growth, multi-jurisdictional public company or a Big 4 accounting firm.

  • A minimum of three years in a supervisory role is essential.

  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS and public company accounting standards is required, along with a strong understanding of SOX legislation and internal controls over financial reporting, including PCAOB requirements.

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and research abilities are crucial.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are needed, with the capacity to clearly articulate complex accounting issues to key stakeholders and decision-makers.

  • Meticulous attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment are important.

  • A high standard of ethics and a commitment to integrity in financial reporting are essential.

Nice to Have:

  • Mining or natural resources industry experience.

  • OneStream and SAP experience.

  • Excellent Excel skills.

  • Expertise with financial systems and report writing.

  • Experience in accounting system implementations is an asset.

  • A self-starter and team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build partnerships across the organization.

  • Ability to motivate teams when working with all business units and operations.

  • Willingness to travel to company sites as needed.
