As part of the expansion of our research programs, the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa invites applications for one tenure track position.

The Faculty of Education is located on the unceded ancestral territories of the Anishinaabe-Algonquin people in the heart of the nation’s capital. With more than sixty professors, we offer an exceptional intellectual environment to students, educational researchers, and professors.

This recruitment also reflects the Faculty of Education’s 2025 strategic plan, which focuses on innovation; educational technologies; a vibrant Francophonie; Indigenous rights; antiracism, equity and social justice.

We are seeking to fill a position for a professor whose research focuses on foundations of education within a linguistically minoritized and pluriversal context.

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Strengthen the theoretical and critical foundation of our teacher education programs by linking the foundations of education to real-world realities.
  • Support pedagogical transformations related to various emerging societal issues that are challenging French-language educational environments.
  • Contribute to research training for master’s and doctoral students.

The successful candidate could develop, without being limited to, a research program anchored in the sociohistorical context of the Ontario and Canadian Francophonie, such as:

  • Contemporary theories and practices in one or more of the foundations of education.
  • Epistemologies of teaching and training.
  • History and sociologies of education.
  • Foundations of adult or early childhood education.
  • Academic integrity and ethics in education.

The selected candidate will oversee the direction of the Formation à l’enseignement programs and must meet all the requirements of the role, including the ability to develop positive relationships with the province’s French-language school boards.

Duties: The functions of a member of the academic faculty include, in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities in the form of research, artistic or literacy creation, or professional work; c) academic service activities; and d) supervision of graduate students.

Terms: New tenure-track position (Assistant Professor). The rank of Associate Professor could be considered.

Wage: Salary scale for an Assistant Professor starts at $99,377 (as of May 1, 2025).

Benefits package: The University of Ottawa provides a complete benefits package which include long-term disability, basic group life insurance, supplementary health insurance, a pension plan and optional life insurance, as well as relocation expenses.

Skills requirements:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Education or equivalent in a field related to the position.
  • Work Experience: A demonstrated excellent track record of research in the field of mathematics didactics (or another field related to the position). A demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels in a context of interdisciplinary collaboration. Ability to teach hybrid and on-line courses. Passive knowledge of English is a requirement for tenure. French-English bilingualism is an asset.
