About the Role:

Reporting to the Graduate Program Director, the incumbent provides administrative support and coordinates experiential education (EE) opportunities for the Master of Athletic Therapy program. The Program Coordinator sources experiential education opportunities that support the goals and curriculum of the Faculty of Applied Health Science. The incumbent is further responsible for collaborating with and supporting the graduate program with experiential education planning, design, implementation, and evaluation, and for achieving synergies and creating/sharing best practices with peers across campus and community organizations globally. Additionally, the incumbent manages the various programming requirements in educating graduate students while administratively supporting the graduate program in the Master of Athletic Therapy.

The Graduate Program Coordinator will:

  • Connect with community partners, both internal and external, to determine expectations for EE and facilitate connections between faculty members and community partners to provide support and ensure needs are met;
  • Identify, develop and coordinate a cohesive approach to partnership development and management, including streamlined and efficient communication processes in collaboration with the Graduate Program Director (GPD) and peers in the Faculty and University;
  • Create and maintain a database of EE opportunities at local, national and international levels;
  • Participate in the creation of policies, processes and procedures pertaining to (Athletic Therapy) (e.g., practicum placements, internships, other forms of EE, etc.);
  • Advise prospective and current students on all aspects of the programs and communications (i.e., applications, registration, orientation, faculty contacts, course availability, deadlines, course material access, program sponsored events, FGS news, practicum seminar updates, program events, student supports, program forms, job opportunities, etc.);
  • Update the graduate program handbook annually;
  • Prepare and/or collaborate with internal departments on the graduate calendar/UPC submission and academic timetable for the following academic year;
  • Develop and deliver recruitment presentations to prospective students both on and off-campus, as well as online;
  • Collaborate with the GPD to develop and implement short and long-term strategies to grow strategically (i.e., experiential education, undergraduate/graduate education programming, multidisciplinary consecutive education, educational specialization opportunities, etc.).
  • Create, maintain, and update program databases and run appropriate reports;
  • Prepare materials for the adjudication and processing of graduate scholarships and awards;
  • Develop and maintain practicum forms, practicum postings, and community partners’ information;
  • Coordinate sessional postings, and compile applications for review (i.e., confirm adherence with CUPE policies etc.) and manage the (Workday) hiring process;
  • Provide administrative support to the Athletic Therapy Admissions and Program Committee (e.g., coordinating program meetings; maintain program records including taking minutes at program meetings and maintaining records of all past meetings, etc.);
  • Maintain and reconcile program budgets and accounts.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Graduate degree in a related field;
  • Certified Athletic Therapist with designation CAT(c);
  • Relevant health professional experience, including work in the field of experiential education, relationship development and administrative management in a graduate education environment;
  • Knowledge of all Faculty of Applied Health Science programs and courses (undergraduate and graduate);
  • Superior knowledge of the theoretical, practical and pedagogical aspects of experiential education, including learning outcomes and assessment;
  • Knowledge of related internal and external policies governing experiential education;
  • Superior knowledge of national, provincial and/or regional community organizations and non-profit management;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health sector management and/or development;
  • Strong computer competency including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and software packages, e-mail, web applications, social media, video conferencing including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, OneDrive, WorkDay and Brightspace;
  • Knowledge of safety requirements for students engaging in experiential education;
  • Relevant experience in a University or similar environment with significant interaction with graduate students and mature students and relevant professional designations;
  • Thorough knowledge of program content related to (Public Health/ Applied Gerontology/ Professional Kinesiology, Athletic Therapy);
  • Strong management skills and the ability to apply best practices for office management and working knowledge of graduate program administration;
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize new ideas to help streamline procedures to ensure efficiencies and innovation; and
  • Familiarity with records management and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act;
  • Advanced communications skills (verbal, written and interpersonal), including professional public speaking and the ability to promote experiential education;
  • Demonstrate customer service skills and ability to build and maintain professional relationships across a broad range of social service organizations and other community-based groups, medical specialists, with national and international knowledge;
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to handle a variety of projects, timelines and schedules simultaneously and under minimal supervision.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of University/public sector governance, policies, procedures and culture;
  • Experience networking with community partners and partner development;
  • Research grant writing or review experience; and
  • Data collection and quantitative/qualitative analysis experience.

Salary and Total Rewards:

  • Job Grade L, Salary Scale ($66,817-$108,353);
  • Target Hiring Range: $66,817-$68,817
  • This is a permanent position that includes:

  • Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays.

  • The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range
