The Students portfolio at Mount Royal broadly encompasses Student Experience & Success, Enrolment Management, International Education, and Planning & Operations, delivering support and services that are inextricably linked with the teaching and learning outcomes academic departments are tasked with achieving. We support the University’s mission by assisting students, staff and faculty through a variety of departments, including Admissions and Recruitment, Residence Services, the Office of the Registrar, Access and Inclusion Services, Career Services, Student Success and Learning (Academic Advising; Student Experience, and; Student Learning Services), Student Supports, Wellness Services, Cougars Athletics and Recreation, the Iniskim Centre, International Education, Student Systems and Communications, and Strategic Enrolment Data.About the RoleReporting to the Director, Planning & Operations within the Students Division, this permanent part-time role serves as a Graphic and Digital Designer on the Student Communications team. Collaborating with a Marketing & Communications Specialist, the position contributes to a wide range of projects aimed at delivering a seamless and cohesive student experience. These projects include event promotion, web redesigns, marketing campaigns, and the creation of forms and documents, all developed in alignment with MRU’s Brand and Style Guide.The incumbent will play a vital role in fostering strong relationships across the Students Division and the broader institution by participating in cross-departmental projects, working groups, and committees. The role requires adaptability to manage high volumes of work during peak periods, balance multiple priorities, and engage with various stakeholders.This position is involved in simultaneous projects and may offer opportunities to lead initiatives. Creativity and technological expertise are central to this role, ensuring innovative and effective design solutions. Additionally, the incumbent will collaborate with MRU Marketing and Communications on joint projects that support Students Division initiatives.ResponsibilitiesWebsite, Digital Media Development and Maintenance (40%)Support content management for the Students Division on mtroyal.ca, including designing elements for related social media and mobile applications. This involves creating and maintaining student-facing announcements and notifications for the digital display system. Additionally, responsibilities include developing new web content aligned with institutional strategies, restructuring outdated departmental pages, and collaborating with various teams to ensure optimal student experience and adherence to university policies. Support for digital media content creation, including filming, editing, and monitoring social media campaigns, is also a desired aspect of the role.Communication & Design (30%)Implement design aspects of communication plans, including digital display, posters, emails, letters, and swag, as well as coordinate production using various applications. This process is iterative, ensuring that designs enhance the effectiveness of Students Division communications across print, digital media, and administrative systems like Self Service Banner. The role involves aligning communication strategies with the larger institutional voice, providing layout and production support, and recommending process improvements for digital and print publications. Additionally, the position includes introducing new self-support initiatives, such as software tools like Canva, and providing training and templates to enhance departmental efficiency, all while adhering to institutional branding and style guidelines.Collaboration & Project Management (30%)Working with the Student Communications team to review, triage, and prioritize project requests. This involves liaising with stakeholders across various levels to understand their functional areas and how they relate to students, ensuring effective communication. Collaboration extends to multiple university departments to develop and execute marketing initiatives and cross-departmental projects that bridge communication and technology. The role also includes participating in standing and ad hoc committees, leading small projects within the Students Division, and occasionally acting as backup to the Marketing and Communications Specialist to post student-related content on MyMRU.Qualifications● A Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in a related field of study which includes Information Design, Graphic Design● Critical thinking and problem-solving ability● Technical expertise in communications as well as web and design software● Creativity● Excellent organizational ability● Knowledge of post-secondary environment● Strong communication/interpersonal skills● Ability to work independently and employ excellent judgment● Accountability for a high degree of accuracy● Proficiency or demonstrated ability to learn applicable software applications● Project management – understanding the principlesWhat We OfferTalented and committed employees are the driving force behind student success.
