Job Title: Hardware Design EngineerLocation: Peterborough, ONJob DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled Hardware Design Engineer to analyze user requirements and create detailed hardware architectures and formal structured designs. The ideal candidate will have experience with safety and performance-critical products in aerospace, robotics, or medical product design.Responsibilities

  • Analyze user requirements and create detailed hardware architecture and formal structured designs.
  • Perform circuit analysis and ensure traceability from user requirements to formal design.
  • Design electronic circuits using suitable components, systems, and equipment, including prototypes and test interfaces/equipment.
  • Prepare material cost and timing estimates, reports, and design descriptions for electronic systems and equipment.
  • Prepare for and conduct design reviews (DDR, PDR, CDR, etc.) as required.
  • Supervise the work of junior designers and other engineering employees.
  • Provide presentations to customers on hardware design and operation.
  • Assist with preparation of estimates, schedules, compliance matrices, and costing for bids.
  • Plan, develop, and lead verification/qualification testing of products based on DO-160 and/or MIL 461/810 standards.
  • Produce estimates for work packages and submit reports on activities to the HW Engineering Manager.

Essential Skills

  • Hardware design experience in regulated industries such as aerospace, medical, nuclear, or automotive.
  • Proficiency with design tools like ORCad, PSpice, Altium, or Matlab.
  • Experience with EMI design and methodology, including designing filters and chokes for EMI waveforms.
  • Power design experience, including chassis and ground voltage differences.
  • Analog design and test experience.
  • Experience with on-board testing and incorporating test points for writing test procedures and test cases.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with components such as zener diodes and TVS for lightning tests.
  • Ability to develop tester requirements, test procedures, test plans, test cases, and test descriptions from product, hardware, and software specifications.
  • Familiarity with requirement/specification-based design.
  • Experience with DO-254, MIL STD 461, and DO-160 standards.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related design experience using embedded control systems in the aviation industry.
  • At least 7 years of experience in electronic product design and reliability analysis, including digital and analog building blocks.
  • Design experience for harsh EMC/EMI environments and lightning protection (HIRF).
  • Knowledge of commercial aviation and/or military specifications and standards (APR-4754, DO-160E/F/G, MIL-STDs, ARINC STDs, and DO-254).
  • Strong understanding of design risk management, safety, obsolescence, reliability, costs, and cost drivers.
  • Experience with tools like DOORS, Matlab, and PSPICE.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to reliably meet deadlines while paying close attention to detail.
  • Eligibility to meet requirements of CGP.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering.

Work EnvironmentHybrid work environment. Candidates will need to be onsite for training and the first few weeks.
