You take pride in holding the powerful to account, and you also know when the audience needs a bit of a lift or a laugh. You examine all situations from a variety of viewpoints, and listen deeply.As host, you embrace your role as an advocate for your audiences and a leader on the team. You are a smart and seasoned journalist with a competitive spirit – who is constantly pushing yourself and the team to deliver the most compelling live local morning radio programming in the region.You must have the self-confidence to bring our programming to life. You shine in the spotlight, you can think on your feet, and you love to experiment with new ways to connect with listeners.This is a one-year contract, with the potential to extend into a permanent position.Key Tasks:Works closely with the Senior Producer and the team to plan the best possible lineup each day.Pitches program ideas, suggests and lines up guests or interviewees, prepares background notes and questions, interviews on or off air, and provides the continuity between program segments.Hosts live breaking news specials / remote shows as neededKeen to shape special programming and/or segments of the daily showGathers audio and visual material in the field and packages it to share with the audience on any required platformsAt ease bantering with program participants such as on-air colleagues, guests or audience members, as requiredWorks to maintain your subject matter expertise in fields relevant to the focus of the programParticipates in public and/or community relations activities as appropriate, to promote the program and/or the Corporation.Video work as part of the program or outside of it, as needed.You possess:A university degree in a field relevant to the position or a combination of education and work experience relevant to the positionProven journalism skills, strong news judgement, excellent general knowledgeStrong live on-air performance and excellent interview skills on a range of topics and themes, all kept to time.A strong love and understanding of Ottawa, including the functions of all three levels of government.Deep knowledge of and connection to the equity-seeking communities across the cityInnovative with programming and ideas.
