Reporting to the Senior Manager, People & Culture, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) will serve as a consultant to management on HR-related issues, act as a champion for organizational talent and growth, and drive HR initiatives to enhance operational units’ performance. The HRBP will be solutions-focused and collaborate with operational management teams and the People & Culture leadership to enhance existing processes, implement new programs and structures for our operational teams – and will foster a positive work environment to continue to make WoodGreen a rewarding and meaningful place to work.

What You Will Do

The HRBP role is an intermediate Individual Contributor (IC) role. The technical success & output of this work is just as important as the programming strategies that is developed. This role will add value as a generalist, ensure effective recruitment strategies and processes, coach specific performance initiatives, and focus on wellbeing initiatives. The incumbent will be expected to be proactive and initiate innovative approaches to address and respond to People and Culture challenges within their designated operational units.

In this role, the HRBP will build relationships and trust across all levels of the organization, acting as a coach in employee’s growth and development at WoodGreen. As a true HRBP, this role has a critical function in leveraging data to drive results, and finessing processes in areas including recruitment, employee relations, disability management and wellbeing. We’re looking for someone who thrives on building relationships, being data driven, paying meticulous attention while taking ownership, and is genuinely enthusiastic about assisting both emerging and experienced leaders.

HR Partnership

  • Act as a trusted advisor to employees and management while providing guidance on employee relations, policies and procedures, and employee engagement.

  • Collaborate with leadership to understand the company’s goals and develop HR strategies that support those objectives.

    Employee Relations:

  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, conducting thorough and objective investigations when there are breaches of WoodGreen’s policies.

  • Advise and coach managers on disciplinary actions (including terminations), performance improvement plans, and employee development.

  • Ensure consistent interpretation and implementation of the collective agreement across the organization.

  • Work collaboratively with the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Specialist to consult on claims to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), as well as assessing leaves of absence, and facilitating accommodations.

    Performance Management:

  • Implement and oversee performance management processes by providing guidance to managers on setting goals, address performance reviews, and development plans.

  • Identify and address performance trends and work collaboratively with operational units to develop improvement strategies.

  • Support organizational training and development by identifying legislative training requirements and providing subject matter expertise in the development of required material.

    HR Compliance:

  • Stay updated on employment laws and regulations to ensure organizational compliance (i.e.: the Employment Standards Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and the Ontario Human Rights Act).

  • Advise management on HR policies and practices, ensuring consistency and fairness.

    What You Bring to the Team                           

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or related field.

  • CHRP/CHRL designation in place or in progress.            

  • 3+ years of experience in Human Resources or related experience, preferably within a unionized setting.

     

    What Will Set You Apart

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite, in particular MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.

  • Experience with ADP is considered an asset.

  • Demonstrating the skill to effectively navigate between acting as a business advisor and an advocate for employees; adeptly managing situations of ambiguity and conflicting priorities.

  • Strong knowledge of talent acquisition strategies, sourcing techniques, and recruitment best practices.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, with the ability to evolve work processes to changing needs.

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability speak with tact, diplomacy, compassion, and confidence to a diverse workforce.

  • Demonstrating the skill to effectively navigate between acting as a business advisor and an advocate for employees; adeptly managing situations of ambiguity and conflicting priorities.

  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to look for non-traditional options while complying with organizational policy.

  • Strong knowledge of labour and employment legislation with the ability to apply that knowledge to complicated situations and guide others in compliance.
