The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services includes the Departments of Child and Youth Care, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Social Work, Education Assistant and Community Support, and a Professional Development and Training department. The mission of the Faculty is to foster student success and develop and maintain relevant, responsive, and stimulating learning opportunities that are community-based, globally and locally, and offered in a visionary, interprofessional environment that is conducive to learning and promotes health and wellness for all. The Dean and the Dean’s Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind.Duties:Vancouver Island University’s Education Assistant and Community Support Program is now accepting applications for an instructor to teach:
- EACS 190- Practicum: Community-Based, an opportunity for students to integrate and apply theory and skills in supervised community living practice experience.
- EACS 180- Practicum: School-based, an opportunity to integrate theory and skills in a supervised practice experience in a school setting (K-12).
Faculty are responsible to prepare and deliver content using online classes and supervise students while at practicum sites. In addition faculty are responsible to design and grade student assignments and tests, and facilitate student integration of theory and practice.Faculty will also participate in program and faculty meetings, liaise with support staff, other staff and faculty.Vancouver Island University places an emphasis on teaching excellence and also encourages scholarly activity and community involvement.Successful candidates will be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles.Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.Required Qualifications:Masters degree from an appropriately accredited institution in the Disabilities field. Recent practice experience in the disabilities field. Demonstrated proficiency in post-secondary teaching both in online and in classroom environments with the ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population. Knowledge and experience applying theory in practice in a manner that is consistent with the content in the course descriptions. Concrete evidence of collaboration and effective teamwork. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency and institutional service.Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.Preferred Qualifications:Relevant PhD (completed or in progress). Experience teaching in post-secondary institutions using blended delivery methods.
