INSTRUCTOR II or SENIOR INSTRUCTOR

The College of Nursing invites applications from registered nurses to fill an Instructor position at the rank of Instructor II or Senior Instructor. This position is a three-year term with an opportunity to renew. Qualified candidates will possess substantive knowledge and relevant nursing experience in nursing practice, post-secondary nursing education, and curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. Expertise in the area maternal / child health is preferred. This position will commence on December 1, 2024 or as soon as possible. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

COLLEGE PROFILE:

The College of Nursing is one of five colleges within the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences (RFHS) at the University of Manitoba. The College of Nursing offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. The Bachelor of Nursing (BN) program is a concept-based curriculum with the integration of leading edge simulation learning and virtual reality. The BN program is also delivered in partnership with the University College of the North in The Pas and Thompson. A new Bachelor of Midwifery program has been established. The Mahkwa omushki kiim (Pathway to Indigenous Nursing Education) provides students with Indigenous ancestry with academic and personal supports to facilitate success.
At the graduate level, the College of Nursing offers a Master’s Program with four streams, including Nurse Practitioner (NP), administration, education and clinical practice streams. The Nurse Practitioner program is approved through the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba and is one of the first NP programs in Canada to be accredited through the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing. In addition, the College offers a PhD Program in Nursing.

The Manitoba Centre for Nursing and Health Research (MCNHR) is a research unit within the College of Nursing. The MCNHR is the only research centre in Manitoba that is solely dedicated to facilitating and supporting collaborative nursing and health research. The College has clinical practice and research links with other universities nationally and internationally and with a number of research institutes in Manitoba. We are proud of our four Research Chairs: a Canada Research Chair in Child and Family Engagement in Health Research and Healthcare; a Health Sciences Centre Clinical Chair; a Riverview Health Centre Research Chair in Person-Directed Living; and a Mindermar Professor in Human Simulation, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.

The College of Nursing has a strong commitment to the Indigenous community, to accessibility and diversity, and to a wide range of practice environments. The College of Nursing also facilitates Clinical Competence Assessments for the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba.

POSITION:

The responsibilities of the Instructor position include both teaching and service. The successful candidates will contribute to the academic development, delivery, and evaluation of theory and clinical practice courses in the undergraduate program, including clinical education instruction, senior practicum supervision and skills and simulation instruction. The incumbents will integrate scholarship into theoretical and clinical teaching; provide leadership in the integration of relevant concepts related to the undergraduate program, provide leadership in ongoing curriculum revision; and collaborate with professional and community organizations. The successful candidates will offer courses on-site or through various distance education modalities. The service duties will include participation on college/faculty/university committees and service to the profession and/or the community.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing and a Master’s degree (Nursing preferred or in a related discipline) required
• Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) required
• A proven track record of excellence in teaching with expertise in delivering and evaluating flipped classes, blended learning, flexible delivery, online delivery and other innovative modalities
• Ability to provide leadership in the continuous evaluation and improvement of the curriculum, innovation in teaching, and enhancement of student experience
• Expertise in teaching and assessment of students in clinical settings, skills and simulation labs using best practice principles and evidence-based knowledge
• Recent clinical practice experience in related area preferred
• Ability to undertake appropriate administrative tasks
• Excellent communication and interaction skills
• Ability to foster collegial relationships
• Scholarly capabilities
