Job Title: Instructor, Teacher Education (Concurrent and Consecutive) programs. 

Subject Area: Educational Technology/Digital Teaching and Learning 

Compensation: 

  • Effective September 1, 2024 – $3546.56 per quarter course (98 hours nominally)
  • Effective September 1, 2024 – $7,093.12 per half course (195 hours nominally)
  • Effective September 1, 2024 – $14,186.24 per full course (390 hours nominally)

Overview:   

  • An instructor in our program will possess or demonstrate strong connected understandings of relevant knowledge for teaching (e.g. Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge);
  • Professionally bring to life the content, knowledge, and competencies relevant to specific methods and foundations courses being taught while modeling the Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT);
  • Enact curriculum and teaching approaches that engage students in conversations on educational inclusion and equity related to course content and concepts;
  • Be aware of a variety of critical practices relevant to their field/subject area that can support all students, attend to our unconscious biases, and encourage inclusivity.

Duties: 

  • Become familiar with Brock University policies and adhere to them.
  • Complete required Brock instructor’s online tutorial prior to first class.
  • Use a provided Brock email address for all Brock-related communications with teacher candidates and program personnel.
  • Develop course materials.
  • Effectively deliver all aspects of the course in designated mode(s) (lecture, blended etc.)
  • Manage instructional contact time and non-contact time. Contact time includes all classes as scheduled online. Non-contact time includes preparation of lecture materials, managing the learning management system(s), student consultation, marking or grading, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required such as attending required meetings with program personnel (e.g. Beginning of Program).
  • Adapt instructional and assessment strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs.
  • Advise, mentor, and provide feedback to teacher candidates in relation to course concepts/content and the Professional Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of the OCT.
  • Work collegially and collaborate/instruct with course team lead(s) and/or other instructors.
  • Attend course team meetings and debriefings.
  • Manage course records including attendance and submit final grades by University and/or Program deadlines.

Qualifications: 

  • Normally a minimum of 5 years of recent teaching experience.
  • Master’s degree or other recognized specialization in the field such as a 3-level specialization related to the subject being taught.
  • Knowledge of concepts, theories, pedagogical practices, and technologies relevant to the course content (e.g., Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge- TPACK; digital educational technologies; online teaching; learning management systems; digital literacies).
  • Exhibits contemporary knowledge of educational theory and pedagogy including assessment relevant to educational technologies.
  • Competency in using educational technology and platforms for content creation, course management and delivery.
  • Prior experience teaching online (both synchronously and asynchronously).
  • Demonstrated leadership in curriculum and/or education.
  • Familiarity with the Ontario curriculum, supporting documents, and approved resources relevant to subject/foundations area.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills especially in providing growth-oriented feedback for beginning teacher candidate development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social justice and equity, particularly to sexual and gender diversity, anti-racism, and Indigenous and decolonizing practices.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience with teacher candidates or other adult learners.

Course(s): 

EDBE 8P73: ICT for Teaching and Learning Intermediate/Senior (I/S) 

The purpose of this course is to prepare teacher candidates for a technology-enhanced classroom. The course will focus on research-based strategies and concrete suggestions for effective integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) across the curriculum in a way that enhances learning, with special emphasis on topics, strands, and expectations detailed by the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum documents. In addition, the course will identify the knowledge and skills teachers need to competently teach with technology while providing opportunities for enhancing personal skills with technology tools currently being used in Ontario I/S classrooms. 

This is a 12-week course running from January to April. 

EDBE 8Y08: Teaching Digital Learners in the Digital Age Primary/Junior/Intermediate (P/J/I) 

The purpose of this course is to prepare teacher candidates for a technology-enhanced classroom. The course will focus on research-based strategies and concrete suggestions for effective integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) across the curriculum in a way that enhances learning, with special emphasis on topics, strands, and expectations detailed by the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum documents. In addition, the course will identify the knowledge and skills teachers need to competently teach with technology while providing opportunities for enhancing personal skills with technology tools currently being used in Ontario P/J/I classrooms. 

This is a 6-week course running from September to October. 

Academic terms generally run from: 

Fall – September to December 

Winter – January to April 

Spring – May to July 

Summer – July to August
