The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services includes the Departments of Child and Youth Care, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Social Work, Education Assistant and Community Support, and a Professional Development and Training department.The mission of the Faculty is to foster student success and develop and maintain relevant, responsive, and stimulating learning opportunities that are community-based, globally and locally, and offered in a visionary, interprofessional environment that is conducive to learning and promotes health and wellness for all. The Dean and the Dean’s Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind.Duties:Faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering classes, designing and grading student assignments and tests, and facilitating student integration of theory and practice. Courses may be offered face-to-face or online (predetermined). Faculty will also participate in program and faculty meetings, liaise with support staff, other staff and faculty. Vancouver Island University places an emphasis on teaching excellence and also encourages scholarly activity and community involvement.Successful candidates will be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles.This position may require travel to a variety of practice settings on Vancouver Island.Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.Required Qualifications:PhD in relevant field, or Masters’ degree in Child and Youth Care or related field and 7 years experience in Child and Youth Care.

  • Recent practical experience working with children, youth, and/or their families in community based settings, knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal ways of knowing and cultural teachings.
  • A demonstrated understanding of Child and Youth Care orientation to practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer competence.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and have a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:Proven administrative and team leadership skills; Ph.D. in Child and Youth Care or related field from an appropriately accredited institution (or in progress); expertise in instruction at the post secondary level; proven research skills. Experience with online learning.
