This position is dedicated to advancing research excellence at the Telfer School of Management by providing advice to researchers and research students to foster interdisciplinary research initiatives and amplify the visibility of research achievements. The goal is to build strategic research groups and provide guidance to faculty members and research-based graduate students to cultivate a vibrant, high-impact research culture.In this role, you will:

  • Scholarship advice and professional development: Offers advice to graduate students on scholarship and award opportunities, and the content of their research proposals and applications. Organizes and delivers scholarship info sessions and workshops and plans and organizes internal professional development opportunities for research students. Act as a resource person for inquiries pertaining to scholarships and student opportunities for researchers and supervisors.
  • Data analysis and research impact: Performs bibliometric and scientometric analyses using common databases (Scopus, Web of Science) and visualization software (VosViewer) to evaluate researcher contributions and impact. Collaborates with the Manager Research Services to prepare reports and evaluations related to strategic decision making, accreditations, annual reporting.
  • Research support: Prepares various documents related to Research Office services. For example, drafts nomination letters for awards and fellowship applications, and engagement letters for grants. Interprets competition guidelines to ensure the content is aligned with agency and institutional requirements. Also prepares invitation letters for visiting scholars and students in line with immigration policies and institutional requirements.
  • Compliance: Advises researchers and students on matters of research compliance, ethical research practices, TCPS-2 and relevant policies. Reviews research applications and makes recommendations on required revisions to meet standards prior to submission to various committees or agencies. Develops and delivers ethics info sessions for thesis students. Liaises with the Office of Research Ethics and Integrity to proactively resolve any issues and streamline the certification process.
  • Content creation and research promotion: Develops content to promote Telfer’s research achievements across diverse platforms, like the Telfer Knowledge Hub and social media, ensuring broad visibility and engagement. Leads the content development for the PhD spotlight and other student features. Prepares bilingual content for the bi-weekly student Research Office newsletter to share upcoming internal news, upcoming opportunities and events relevant for students. Manages the student corner of the Research Office website, anticipates requirements and generates web content to best meet ongoing needs while ensuring compliance with web, official language and accessibility standards and established policies.
  • Student services and liaison activities: Act as a resource person for inquiries pertaining to research program requirements and Research Office services. Provides guidance to MSc and PhD Program Directors, researchers, and graduate research students to enhance student support services, their research activities, expand outreach and participation, and maximize impact. Collaborates with Telfer Research Student Association (TRSA) to ascertain student challenges and needs and provide advice and recommend new initiatives for students.
  • Event management and research activities: Plans and organizes Research Office events and initiatives and provides support for research groups to organize events that align with Telfer’s priorities, ensuring strong participation and reach. For example, plans and organizes the annual Telfer Graduate Student Thesis Competition, launches the call for abstracts, oversees the internal selection process, and provides advice to the winners to prepare their oral presentations and posters. Liaises with various stakeholders to ensure the events are successful.
  • Internal records and quality assurance: Develops and maintains databases on Telfer research activities and analyzes data to assist in the preparation of various reports, including the annual research report and Telfer accreditation reports. Compiles accurate and complete information, and drafts and updates internal documents about Research Office procedures and processes.
  • Research Group support: Provides advice and support to research groups in preparing their annual activity reports to ensure alignment with funding requirements and objectives.

What you will bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 5 years of experience in university-level research administration or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of research support, research management and dissemination.
  • Knowledge of research funding landscape in Canada.
  • Demonstrated experience in research project management preferably in a university setting.
  • Excellent analytical, writing and editing skills.
  • Multi-cultural sensitivity and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingualism is required (both oral and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to create, maintain and build relationships and partnerships within the University and externally
  • Ability to handle competing priorities and meet strict deadlines
  • Experience in developing and delivering workshops
