Through our dedication we have built strong experiential learning opportunities for our students where our students have unparalleled access to, and interaction with, the highest judges in the land to help foster an inclusive and high-quality student experience.Position purpose:Coordinates and performs the main tasks related to admissions and financial aid management, including applicant recruitment, assessment and acceptance, in accordance with the Faculty’s regulations and vision. Ensures liaison and external relations, to help attract and retain the best law applicants in a fast-growing, highly competitive environment.In this role, your main responsibilities will include:Oversees the recruitment and admissions process for programs under own responsibility. Develops and provides information to prospective applicants to determine their genuine needs and advise them on programs of study, funding (Pre-law Training Program) and admission requirements, considering their prior education and career goals.Analyzes and prepares admission files according to University requirements, ensuring that all admission conditions are met. Checks student status lists for accuracy and makes necessary corrections. Determines applicant eligibility, prepares files for evaluation by admission committees and manages implementation of evaluation committee recommendations.Admission committees: Plans and coordinates committee activities. Offers information sessions to new committee members about the admission process, file review, the Citrix system, data use (to ensure smooth running of activities) and compliance with timelines. Ensures that committees apply admission policies for the undergraduate programs in question.Approves admission offers arising from fast-tracked applications. Determines which applications must be reviewed by the committee as a whole or by a more limited group. Makes recommendations to the assistant dean and the admissions committee co-chair regarding applications to reject.Handles liaison and external relations, to attract and retain the best applicants. Organizes and coordinates liaison and recruitment events for future students, to promote Faculty and University programs, achievements and activities. Acts as a resource person for inquiries regarding program requirements and University services, to increase Faculty of Law visibility and appeal for future students. Represents the section at external recruitment activities.What you will bring:Knowledge of administration normally acquired through postsecondary studies and three years’ experience in a similar roleThorough knowledge of high school, college and university programs (undergraduate and graduate)Experience conducting research, analyzing data and preparing administrative and statistical reportsKnowledge and experience regarding interpreting, communicating and applying policies, academic regulations and proceduresHolds a valid G class driving license and must be at least 21 years old within the first month of hiring (requirement for a car rental due to distance and material transport needs)Experience with problem-solving and decision-makingExperience implementing strategies and planning student activitiesExperience developing performance evaluation frameworks (setting objectives, targets, evaluation and performance indicators)Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills, with a focus on consultation, analysis and feedbackAbility to manage conflicting priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environmentStrong organizational and analytical skills, excellent judgment and attention to detailExperience in using Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access), Windows and the internetExperience using a student information system and electronic tools related to admissionListening skills and strong work ethicBilingualism — French and English (spoken and written)Key Competencies at uOttawa:
