Lecturer and Program Coordinator in Adult Learning and Global Change (leave replacement)

Situated on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people in Vancouver, Canada, the Department of Educational Studies (EDST) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in the area of Adult Learning and Global Change. This position will also work as the Program Coordinator for the online Master of Education in Adult Learning and Global Change (ALGC). This position is for an initial term of one year, with the possibility of extension. The appointment is expected to begin on February 1, 2026, or as mutually agreed upon between the University and the successful candidate.

The ALGC program, established in 2001, is a fully online graduate program offered in collaboration with Linköping University (Sweden) and University of the Western Cape (South Africa). It is unique in the world in terms of both its curriculum and collaborative delivery. ALGC is housed in the Department of Educational Studies (EDST) in the UBC Faculty of Education. There are four key criteria for this position. The successful candidate must possess: (a) a doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in the field of adult learning and education; and (b) successful experience with post-secondary online teaching and learning, ideally with students from different cultural contexts. Relatedly, the global focus and collaborative nature of the program require a coordinator who has experience with advising graduate students or working closely with graduate students in complex graduate programs. Preference will be given to candidates who place immigration and migration, gender/sexuality, disability, race and ethnicity, diasporic concerns, underrepresented populations, or social inequalities at the center of their teaching interests and practices as these pertain to groups historically underrepresented in higher education.

The successful candidate will be expected to: (a) teach EDST courses in ADHE and ALE, with a focus on social institutions of adult learning, cross-cultural teaching and learning, and global citizenship; (b) collaborate closely with the International ALGC Management Committee and partners in program operation; (c) assist the Chair of the Department’s ALGC Management and Admissions Committee with tasks related to the curriculum renewal and program development; (d) orient new ALGC tutors to the curriculum, operations and delivery of the program; (e) provide teaching-related program research and coordination support; (f) provide global support to ALGC colleagues for a planned transition from the Lisam Learning Management system to the (UBC-hosted) Canvas LMS; and (g) participate in affairs and activities of the ALGC program and EDST.

The annual workload for this Lecturer (Program Coordinator) position is 30 credits in total, which will include teaching in the ALGC program and EDST course in adult learning and education, as well as coordination duties.

This position is subject to final budgetary approval. The expected pay range for this position is $110,000 – $120,000 per annum. Starting salary is determined both by the candidate’s qualifications and experience and by their placement on the career progress scale within the Faculty of Education.
