Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the post-secondary level and excel at teaching Business Communication (with a focus on formal and informal business deliverables like presentations, memos and emails) and General Business courses with experiential and iterative pedagogies to a linguistically and culturally diverse student body. The ability to coach and provide detailed feedback to students, supporting their professional development in both academic and co-curricular settings (e.g., personal branding strategies, clear and effective communication), as well as to supervise and guide a team of teaching assistants to ensure quality of instruction and consistency of assessment is essential. Experience teaching Business Communication and General Business courses at an AACSB/EQUIS accredited Business School is preferred. Teaching experience consistent with Beedie School of Business’ strategic priorities of innovation, social responsibility, and global perspective will be prioritized. Applicants must have a graduate degree in Business Administration or related fields. Experience with teaching responsible use of Generative AI tools, pedagogical research experience, industry experience with strong business communication skills or equivalent, and/or experience with engaging community/industry partners as well as a doctoral degree, would be considered assets.

Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to teach eight course sections per year in the undergraduate business major and minor programs, covering primarily Business Communication but also Introduction to Business, Critical Thinking in Business (e.g., evaluating and presenting evidence and arguments in business problem solving), and Professional Development (e.g., making career plans; reflecting on and effectively communicating one’s own academic and co-curricular experiences). Teaching faculty members are expected to contribute to the Beedie School of Business’ teaching excellence, actively participate in the school’s collegial self-governance, and offer assistance and guidance to students, peers, and the academic community through activities such as committee work, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities.

Faculty salaries at SFU are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the SFU Faculty Association. A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role at the Lecturer Rank is $98,340-$114,241, dependent on experience. Benefits are in addition to this range.
