Cozen O’Connor is seeking a full-time legal Assistant to join the Family law practice in our Vancouver office.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about contributing directly to our growing Family Law practice group. The Legal Assistant is able to multi-task under numerous and tight time constraints with exceptional attention to detail. This position requires excellent communication, organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as cohesively with a broader team.

This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week required onsite. Onsite requirements may evolve over time and the role may require work outside of standard business hours to support operational needs.

The expected annual base salary range for this position is $60,000 to $80,000. The offered salary will be determined based on factors such as job knowledge, skillset, experience, and internal and market equity.

  • Maintains efficient file management and bring forward systems, including opening files, preparing engagement letters and managing client identification and verification requirements;
  • Prepares/transcribes, edits and formats correspondence, memos, reports, and forms;
  • Prepares court materials including trial briefs, applications, and brief of authorities;
  • Provides efficient workflow including the duplication, printing, mailing, and merging of documents;
  • Proofreads all work for accurate content and context;
  • Communicates with clients, paralegals and other lawyers to effectively complete tasks;
  • Schedules and coordinates meetings and conferences, including greeting clients and distribution of material;
  • Coordinates and schedules travel arrangements which include: transportation, automobile rentals, and hotel reservations;
  • Maintains lawyers’ calendars;
  • Prepares expense reports and cheque requests;
  • Responsibilities associated with the job may change from time to time in accordance with business needs; incumbent may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
  • 2 – 5 years of experience as a legal administrative assistant, family law experience is an asset;
  • Graduate of an accredited legal administrative assistant program or possesses relevant work experience;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications with advanced level in Microsoft Word and Outlook. Intermediate to advanced level in Microsoft Excel would be considered an asset;
  • Experience using BCOnline and BCRegistries an asset;
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining strong attention to detail;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication; ability to professionally interact with clients, lawyers, and staff;
  • Strong prioritization and time management abilities;
  • Strong document processing skills and typing skills;
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.
