The Position
Support the Legal & Compliance department and Privacy Officer with review and completion of legal files, work packages, and special projects.
Responsibilities
Under supervision of Legal Counsel and Privacy Officer:
Conduct legal, policy and general research
Prepare legal memoranda, primarily in the areas of privacy, life sciences, and corporate commercial law
Review and propose updates to commercial contract templates and contract playbooks
Support with personal information process mapping and roll-out of Personal Data Protection Registry
Support assessment and management of privacy breaches
Assist Legal department with records retention program pertaining to the storage of legal documents
This position is based in the Burlington, Ontario office located at 5180 South Service Road and is flexible.
Employees in flexible roles are required to be at the office a minimum of 50% of the time each month and must report to the office when requested and required by their Manager/Department.
Requirements
Currently enrolled in a Law Program (1L or 2L) at a recognized Canadian academic institution.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Effective organizational skills and strong work ethic
Proficiency with MS Office Suite 2010 programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Ability to multi-task and work independently
Proactive, responsive and pragmatic business partner, effective listener and communicator
Analytical in tackling complex issues, with the ability to apply judgement to areas outside of core competency
Ability to face challenges and to exercise integrity, flexibility, and good judgment
