  • Ensure maintenance activities are conducted in a safe and courteous manner at all times and in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Manage and apply the safety program for the crew, which includes the safety, PSI meetings and compliance to company, Client and legislated Safety Policies and procedures.
  • Provides Safety leadership with daily PSI, weekly Safety meetings. Ensuring compliance to FLRA, JSA, JHA and PPE requirements.
  • In coordination with the Shop Supervisors, assist the Superintendent with developing goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the shop.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship while competently supervising the crew. The General Maintenance Supervisor will provide guidance and oversite to HET apprentices and Journeyman, building their skill set and enabling them to become competent with the rebuild process on heavy equipment.
  • Adhere to company and specifically shop policies, procedures and processes in all aspects of work.
  • Work directly with the Shop Supervisors to manage a crew of personnel which includes assigning work and managing performance, and ensuring all time cards, paper work and related documentation are completed, as per processes and procedures.
  • Responsible for all planned shop projects. This includes safety performance, quality and quantity of work execution, setting up jobs, meeting budget and cost guidelines, reporting on any discrepancies to budget and ensuring projects are completed on time.
  • Work with the Equipment Superintendent and Maintenance Planners to monitor and manage the cost and progress of each project and provide progress reports to management.
  • Creating, executing and managing daily and weekly work plans and ensuring goals and KPIs are met.
  • Provide support/coverage for the shop and for the Technical Equipment Superintendent(s).
  • Review and approve the parts and outside labor ordering, including tools and consumables.
  • Assist Maintenance Planners and the Materials group with resolving any parts and materials issues to ensure the projects are kept on track.
  • Oversee and coordinate PM Program.
  • Oversee outages and repairs for fleet of shovels.
  • Coordinate special projects for Maintenance at Suncor Base Mine Site.
  • Other ad-hoc duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:What Makes You the ONE

  • Minimum 8 years heavy equipment experience in heavy construction or mining environment.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in supervisory role.
  • Strong proven safety background
  • Journeyman Mechanic Ticket with Interprovincial Red Seal
  • Project management certification would be an asset.
  • General knowledge of Caterpillar equipment, SIS and ET
  • Must be able to board (access) and maneuver around large mining equipment
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be comfortable with computers and have a general working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
