Once a project has been implemented, the Manager, Data Delivery is responsible for the project’s maintenance and continued deployment. The Manager, Data Operations plays a crucial role in not only maintaining the operational efficiency of existing data projects but also safeguarding the security and integrity of sensitive information, thereby contributing to the overall reliability and resilience of the university’s data infrastructure. Many areas of the university, including senior leadership, require this data to make informed decisions. The Manager, Data Operations ensures that this information is consistently available for this purpose.DutiesOperational Management:

• Conducts regular analysis of existing systems to ensure that they are operational and secure.
• Looks for improvements and optimizations in existing systems.
• Finds innovative and tailored solutions to data and analysis problems.
• Communicates with various departments to ensure that their data needs are being consistently met by existing systems.
• Resolves system problems through effective management of technological, monetary, and human resources.
• Navigates around roadblocks and barriers as they present.
• Educates self on most up to date security practices and procedures to ensure that sensitive data remains safe.
• Receives custody of new projects from the Data Delivery Manager once they have been implemented.

Talent Management:

• Attracts and retains hard to find, in demand talent.
• Determines the required competencies and qualifications required for staff and effectively identifies these in potential staff.
• Identifies and cultivates the individual and group talents of team members.
• Builds and maintains a strong bench of talent for succession.

Data Collection and Analysis:

• Verifies the structure, accuracy, or quality of warehouse data.
• Maps data between source systems, data warehouses, and data marts.
• Maintains and improves standards, such as organization, structure, or nomenclature, for the design of data warehouse elements, such as data architectures, models, tools, and databases.
• Provides or coordinates troubleshooting support for data warehouses.
• Creates supporting documentation, such as metadata and diagrams of entity relationships, business processes, and process flow.
• Perform system analysis, data analysis or programming, using a variety of computer languages and procedures.
• Creates or implements metadata processes and frameworks.
• Prepares functional or technical documentation for data warehouses.
• Designs and develops database architecture for information systems projects.
• Designs, constructs, modifies, integrates, implements and tests data models and database management systems.
• Conducts research and provide advice to other informatics professionals regarding the selection, application and implementation of database management tools.
• Operates database management systems to analyze data and perform data mining analysis.

Communication, Coordination and Reporting:

• Supports the Director, Data Services in crafting and executing the unit’s communication strategy.
• Manages communication with diverse stakeholders, establishes new structures and processes, and ensures effective engagement of project members in a timely manner.
• Informs stakeholders about the impact and interconnections among projects, and ensures that collective efforts align with the University’s overarching goals and objectives.
• Facilitates the creation of status reports and presentations to inform senior leadership of each project’s progress as well as any risks, challenges, or opportunities that may arise.
• Communicates strategically, with consideration to optimal timing, style, channel, and medium.

QualificationsAcademic Qualifications:

• Minimum of an Undergraduate in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or Statistics. A Graduate Degree in these fields is preferred.

Experience:

• 7-10 years of experience in the storage, computation, and flow manipulation of data.
• 3-5 years of experience in a people management role.

Knowledge:

• In-depth understanding of computer systems, processes, and software.
• In-depth understanding of statistics.
• Strong understanding of mathematics.
• Familiarity of design techniques and processes.

Skills:

• Reading Comprehension – Can accurately comprehend, analyze, and synthesize written material. Can identify key details and make connections between different pieces of information.
• Programming – Can translate specific requirements or tasks into a set of instructions that a computer can execute. Involves various programming languages, problem-solving abilities, algorithmic thinking, and the capability to debug and optimize code.
• Complex Problem Solving – Can analyze intricate issues, identify relevant factors, and develop effective solutions. Involves the capacity to approach multifaceted challenges that lack a clear path or a straightforward solution.
• Systems Analysis – Can analyze the university’s systems, processes, and procedures to ensure they align with the university’s objectives and meet the needs of the various stakeholders. Involves understanding how different components within a system Interact, assessing potential improvements, and recommending changes to enhance overall performance.
• Systems Evaluation – Can assess and appraise the performance, efficiency, and overall effectiveness of the university’s systems, processes, or technologies. Involves gathering and interpreting data, conducting thorough assessments, and providing recommendations for improvements or optimizations
