The Mechanical Estimator is located in Ottawa and reports to the Division Manager. Their primary focus is to prepare estimates on mechanical construction projects. In addition, the Estimator provides technical support to project operations with emphasis on estimating, planning, reporting and monitoring progress and dealing with project change.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract drawings and specifications.

• Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects regarding tenders.

• Participate in site review, tender review, and tender hand-off.

• Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs.

• Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Degree or Diploma in an industry related discipline such as engineering, estimating, or construction management OR

• Qualified tradesperson in mechanical field with several years of experience, and previous estimating experience

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 3-10 years of experience in the mechanical construction Industry

• Several years of experience with plumbing, HVAC

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of cost estimating

• Knowledge and understanding of mechanical piping and related equipment

• Proficient in MS Office applications ((Word, Excel, and Projects).

• Effective communicator, both written and verbal

• Strong ability to problem solve and work efficiently within a fast paced and dynamic work environment

• Organization and time management

• Must hold a valid driver’s license
