Halifax, Nova Scotia, CanadaThe Department of Pathology at Dalhousie University in Halifax seeks to recruit a Medical Biochemist, for the Division of Clinical Chemistry. This fulltime position is primarily based at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre (QEII HSC) but serves all regions within Nova Scotia Health-Central Zone (NSH-CZ) and includes participation in Provincial Discipline and Stewardship Committees and related activities.The Clinical Chemistry Laboratory Service at NSH-CZ consists of three hospital -based laboratories, one community-based laboratory and three tri-facility sites. The QEII II HSC, part of NSH-CZ, is a large, tertiary care, teaching hospital affiliated with Dalhousie University and is the major referral centre for the Maritime provinces. The successful applicant will join a team of 2.6 FTE Medical Biochemists and a 1.0 FTE Clinical Chemist that provide diagnostic laboratory oversight, test interpretive services and laboratory stewardship activities. These apply to a wide variety of tests within the arena of routine and special chemistry, endocrinology, immunology, toxicology and therapeutic drug monitoring, environmental chemistry, and molecular biology. The Division also directs and provides clinical service to the Immunology Laboratory for the diagnosis of multiple myeloma and related disorders. The centre operates a busy clinical service which is supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and research opportunities in all aspects of clinical chemistry. This permanent position requires a commitment to clinical service, teaching and research. The Division of Clinical Chemistry has an active role in supporting Royal College Residency Training programs.The successful applicant will be expected to participate in all aspects of the clinical chemistry service with particular focus on metabolic disorders, toxicology/ forensic testing, and laboratory utilization/ stewardship activities. A specific interest and expertise in analytical and clinical aspects of metabolic disorders and mass spectrometry is essential. Other areas of interest that include molecular diagnostics, data analytics and clinical decision support implementation are desirable. Participation in a 24/7 on-call rota is also a mandatory requirement as part of the clinical work for this position.Applicants must hold certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Medical Biochemistry (or equivalent) and preferably a PhD degree. The successful candidate will be given a faculty appointment in the Department of Pathology at Dalhousie University commensurate with their qualification and experience.Halifax is a growing, dynamic port city of nearly 500,000, with excellent schools, vibrant entertainment and restaurant scenes, and easy access to beaches, lakes and outdoor sporting activities.
