We are home to over 14,000 faculty and staff, more than 40,000 students and a growing community of 300,000 alumni worldwide.Your work will have a meaningful influence on a fascinating cross-section of people – from our students and community members, to our renowned researchers and innovators, making discoveries and generating solutions that make the world healthier, safer, stronger and more just. .Working for the Office of Rural and Regional Health (ORRH)The Office of Rural and Regional Health (ORRH) works closely with counterparts throughout the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (FoMD), University of Alberta (UofA) and Rural and Regional communities in order to deliver the medical education mandate at all learner levels in both undergraduate and postgraduate education.Working as the Medical Education Program Administrator, Fort McMurrayWe are seeking a professional administrator, who is a problem-solver and relationship builder, with a commitment to Rural Medicine in Alberta.The Medical Education Program Administrator, Fort McMurray will support all local educational activities undertaken by the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry in Fort McMurray and the surrounding communities. The person in this position will work with local Lead Preceptors for both the Royal College & College of Family Physicians of Canada programs.The Medical Education Program Administrator, Fort McMurray will act as the local liaison and assist in building relationships with local physicians, administrative and support hospital staff (Alberta Health Services – AHS), medical learners and community members. They will assist with local program support of the Undergraduate Medical Learners, Royal College rotations, and Postgraduate Family Medicine educational programs. This position will collaborate with the Office of Rural and Regional Health for all meetings, site visits and faculty development events that occur in the local area. As Fort McMurray is an important learning environment for learners based at UofA campuses in Edmonton and Grande Prairie, the Medical Education Program Administrator will maintain regular contact with administrative partners in both locations.DutiesAs the local representative for medical education programs of the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry in Fort McMurray and surrounding communities, maintain and build relationships with local physicians, local administrative and support hospital staff, medical learners, and community membersRepresent the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at appropriate local groups, as determined by the Team Lead and Director, ORRHAssist or produce materials to raise the profile of the Office of Rural and Regional Health in the communityAdvise the office on new physicians who are interested in clinical teaching, to obtain their clinical appointmentSchedule learners on rotations in Fort McMurray and throughout AHS North Zone communicating with individual preceptors in clinic and hospital administrators in Fort McMurray and surrounding communitiesArrange and book accommodations, serving as the first point of contact for any accommodation issues.Plan and stage Local Meetings, Site Visits, and Faculty DevelopmentAssist in obtaining, compiling, collating, analyzing, and extracting appropriate data and other information, as required for reports and evaluations prepared by ORRHReview processes to maximize the program office operations, including creating and regularly updating a position manualCollect evaluation documentationPayment and expense administrationOffice AdministrationMedical TranscriptionOther duties as requiredMinimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in Administration is an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Flexible and supportive to assist learners on a regular as-needed basis
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills in a diverse daily working environment
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships with diverse groups
  • Self-motivated and must be able to work well independently with limited supervision
  • Commitment to providing timely, efficient, exceptional service

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment (through virtual means)
  • Commitment to ongoing process improvement
  • Will require some travel to North Campus, Edmonton requiring access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of administrative experience in a medical and academic environment is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Calendar, Google Sites, and Google Apps; and ability to learn new software platforms as necessary.
