To assist the nursing staff in providing for the safety and comfort of patients, through the performance of non-licensed requiring tasks.
Responsibilities
Hygiene/Grooming: Provides or assists the patient with services that relate to patient cleanliness including: bath and oral care, shampoo, shave, grooming, peri-care and dressing, post mortem care, utilizing Standard Precautions.
Mobility: Provide or assist the patient with the services that relate to physical mobility i.e., ambulation, repositioning, and bed rest.
Nutrition: Provide or assist the patient with services that relate to food, beverage, and fluid intake, i.e., supervision of the dining room, setting up meal tray, feeding patients, NPO, and calorie count maintenance.
Communication: Demonstrates the ability to process and interface appropriate information between the health care team and the patient, family/significant other to ensure quality patient outcomes.
Vital Signs, Treatment/Procedures: Assesses and records the patient’s vital signs, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respirations per unit specific policy. Performs all treatments and procedures in accordance with established Policies, Procedures, and Patient Care Standards.
Rounds/Safety Checks – Performs ongoing unit rounds and scheduled room searches to ensure patient?s comfort and safety needs are met. Performs close observation and one to one observation per unit policy.
Clean-up: Maintains patient and unit environment in a neat, clean, and orderly manner/ bedmaking.
Helps to ensure the good health of the milieu by way of constantly monitoring it and through the reporting of significant events and incidents to the RN and/or LPN staff.
