JOB DESCRIPTION

Why Mozilla?

Mozilla Corporation is the non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser. Now, with more than 225 million people around the world using our products each month, we’re shaping the next 25 years of technology and helping to reclaim an internet built for people, not companies. Our work focuses on diverse areas including AI, social media, security and more. And we’re doing this while never losing our focus on our core mission – to make the internet better for people.

The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren’t beholden to any shareholders — only to our mission. Along with thousands of volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms.

About this team and role:

We’re looking for a Senior Recommendations Editor with superb editorial judgment and a sophisticated understanding of the digital media landscape to help us curate the best of the web for Firefox users. In this role, you would be directly responsible for guiding millions of people to high-quality, trustworthy content recommendations in the browser. You’d be part of a nimble, highly-collaborative editorial team that works alongside machine learning engineers, software developers, data scientists, UX designers, and other Mozillians to build a better window to the internet. The right candidate will be able to shift between creative work such as curating custom editorial experiences and more analytical tasks like assessing the quality of content recommendation algorithms, all while maintaining Mozilla’s editorial standards.

What you’ll do:

  • Spotlight and promote phenomenal content across all of Firefox content recommendations surfaces
  • Work with product managers and engineers to develop internal editorial tools and external recommendations products that are aligned with Firefox’s editorial values and guidelines;
  • Leverage analytics to assess content performance, generate insights, and help shape editorial decisions and strategy;
  • Abide by and refine Firefox’s editorial guidelines and strategy to maintain a high bar of quality and diversity in our recommendation products; represent and advocate for those editorial standards within cross-functional discussions;
  • Work with publishers, content creators, and influential Firefox users to pursue new opportunities for high-quality content on the web to thrive and reach new audiences;
  • Explore new ideas and concepts to further develop how Firefox’s recommendation products help people consume stories worthy of their time and attention in a changing media and technological landscape

What you’ll bring:

  • You’ve been working for 4+ years in content creation, editorial, moderation, or curation roles;
  • You possess superb editorial judgement with an eye for smart, engaging content;
  • You have an exceptionally high degree of media literacy and a keen understanding of the U.S. and international news environments;
  • You’re comfortable curating across a wide variety of topics and genres, including breaking news, entertainment, technology, science, and sports; you’re intellectually curious with an eclectic media diet and an ability and enthusiasm to get up to speed on new topics quickly;
  • You’re skilled at collaborating cross-functionally (i.e. with developers, designers, data scientists, etc.) to deliver high-quality editorial experiences;
  • You’re product-minded, with a good sense of the evolving media and technology landscape and how emerging technologies like GenAI might affect content creators and consumers.
  • You can both strategize and ideate at a very high level and “roll up your sleeves” in the details to get things done;
  • You have a strong ethical commitment to online trust and safety and building an internet that elevates critical thinking, reasoned argument, shared knowledge, and verifiable facts.
  • Commitment to our values:
    • Welcoming differences
    • Being relationship-minded
    • Practicing responsible participation
    • Having grit

What you’ll get:

  • Generous performance-based bonus plans to all eligible employees – we share in our success as one team
  • Rich medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous retirement contributions with 100% immediate vesting (regardless of whether you contribute)
  • Quarterly all-company wellness days where everyone takes a pause together
  • Country specific holidays plus a day off for your birthday
  • One-time home office stipend
  • Annual professional development budget
  • Quarterly well-being stipend
  • Considerable paid parental leave
  • Employee referral bonus program

Other benefits (life/AD&D, disability, EAP, etc. varies by country)
