About the Role: 

The Network Administrator works as part of the infrastructure team to design, implement, and support the operations of a multi-vendor campus enterprise network. The incumbent is responsible for recommending and implementing best practices to ensure optimum performance, security, and disaster recovery.

The Network Administrator, ITS will: 

  • Manage complete lifecycle of a broad spectrum of network technologies including, but not limited to switches, routers, wireless access points and controllers, point-to-point wireless bridges, firewalls, traffic shapers, load balancers;
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and solve complex network connectivity issues working with cross departmental teams, vendors and outside resources as required;
  • Implement security and operational standards and leading practices to maintain and secure network infrastructure in coordination with security team;
  • Deploy and Manage software and hardware firewalls to secure University’s network infrastructure;
  • Analyze logs to identify, diagnose and resolve complex problems;
  • Work with Information Security team to identify and respond to security threats and incidents;
  • Maintain accurate inventory of assets and replacement costs and develop forecasts for replacements to assist in development of operational and capital budgets;
  • Evaluate emerging and existing technologies, and provide guidance and recommendations for deployment;
  • Oversee and participate in IT projects from planning to completion.

Key Skills and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Computer Science, or equivalent combination of education and related experience;
  • Recent experience with project management and network environments, including configuring, monitoring, and maintaining network equipment in a multi-vendor enterprise environment;
  • Valid G class drivers license with the ability to provide an acceptable Driver’s Abstract;
  • Knowledge of current technological developments in network virtualization, segmentation, programmable fabric, cloud computing;
  • Ability to implement information security directives (patch firmware, firewalls, etc.);
  • Knowledge of network security procedures and protocols particularly related to enterprise environments;
  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise grade Wireless Access Points and controllers, preference on HPE/Aruba products, and enterprise grade firewalls with preference on Palo Alto products and data center fabric technologies with preference on Cisco ACI product;
  • Ability to work with users, understanding their needs and using analysis skills to interface their needs into system requirements;
  • Ability to provide written and oral documentation and presentations for proposals, procedures, models and designs for a variety of technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Ability to manage time, goals and full scope projects, and work with multiple users, tasks, projects and tight deadlines;
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and problem solve complex network connectivity issues; ability to troubleshoot, resolve incidents and identify issues, working with other IT members or vendors.

Please note: This position will be required to work on-site and be available for on-call rotation and after hours/weekend support. 

Preferred or Asset Skills: 

  • Experience with post-secondary research environments;
  • Project Management training;
  • Any relevant industry recognized certifications or training; and
  • Knowledge of scripting or configuration management tools (Python, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.).

Salary and Total Rewards: 

  • Job Grade M, Salary Scale ($$68,600.00 – $117,600.00);
  • Target Hiring Range: $68,600 – $100,900
  • This is a permanent position that includes:

  • Pension Plan: Enrollment eligibility in the Brock University Pension Plan.
  • Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays.

  • The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
