Position Description:

The School of Religious Studies (SRS) and the Department of English at McGill (Montreal, Canada), invite applications for the Robert Stevenson Chair in Religion and Literature. This professorial position will be a joint appointment, with a primary appointment in the School of Religious Studies. The search is open as to rank (Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor). The successful applicant will be a world class scholar or a scholar with great promise in their field of study. We seek to appoint a dynamic scholar capable of expanding the existing programs at the School of Religious Studies and the Department of English at McGill through a research expertise and teaching competence in Religion and Literature in the medieval, global medieval and/or the early modern period, acknowledging that these periodic divisions might differ based on geographic area.

Job Duties:
The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, normally 4 courses per year, possess outstanding research abilities in the candidate’s field of expertise, and effect service to the Department, the School, and the Faculty. The ideal candidate will possess broad supervisory competence and demonstrate expertise in relevant theoretical and methodological approaches to religious and literary studies.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
The position start date is August 1, 2026. The successful applicant is expected to have received their PhD prior to appointment.
