Academic Part-time Position

As a part-time Professor, you will develop and deliver curriculum using various engaging and innovative methods, playing a pivotal role in enhancing academic excellence through sound, teaching practice.

The School of Creative Industries is seeking a qualified professional to join the Game Design program and teach part-time from January 2025-April 2025.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. Conestoga offers classes Monday to Sunday from 7:00 am – 10:00 pm, both in-person and online. Part-time Professors typically teach 1-2 courses. Courses are approximately 3-6 hours per week in the classroom for a 14-week term. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure program and course curriculum are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices in the field
  • Carry out regularly scheduled instruction according to the format prescribed for the course, including online, classroom, and computer-assisted lab lessons
  • Ensure student awareness of course objectives, instructional approach, and evaluation systems
  • Evaluate student progress/achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of student work within the assigned course, and maintain records as required
  • Support students in the use of eConestoga, the learning management system (D2L), as well as maintain course materials within this system
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds, and learning styles
  • Work in a collaborative, collegial manner both within the department and across the college

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Game Design/Development or related field of study is required
  • Minimum five years of industry experience in videogames, and/or virtual/augmented reality is required
  • Adult or post-secondary level teaching experience is an asset
  • Experience with curriculum development is an asset
  • Proficiency working in a game engine such as Unity, Godot or Unreal
  • Additional valuable skills include C# programming, general scripting, asset creation or technical art
  • A solid foundation in game interaction design and game production methodologies
  • Experience with computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g., D2L) is preferred
  • Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels, including international students and students requiring accommodation, is an asset
  • Strong commitment to academic excellence, student success, and ability to support Conestoga’s continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Strong relationships with industry contacts and network connections are considered an asset
