We are an established IB Continuum World School with a reputation for excellence and innovation. We are now seeking a Physical and Health Education Teacher to start in August 2025.

PYP Physical and Health Education teachers teach across a range of grade levels, in addition to supporting our Athletics programme by coaching at least one team per term (core sports at Mulgrave include basketball, soccer, volleyball). Teaching and learning in PHE reflects the IBʼs conceptual focus and inquiry-based approach, and is differentiated to ensure that all students are appropriately supported and challenged to achieve their personal best.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Teach PYP PHE across the Early Years (PK3-K) and coach Junior School teams
  • Create and regularly review and revise unit planners, in collaboration with departmental colleagues
  • Coach at least one team per term (Coaching will be primarily in the Junior School, but with opportunities to coach in G6-12, primarily in basketball, soccer, volleyball).
  • Attend and participate in weekly whole school PHE collaborative planning sessions
  • Collaborate and coordinate with classroom teachers and other specialist subject teachers and coordinators (Literacy, Outdoor Education, etc.) to ensure a cohesive approach to delivery of the Programme of Inquiry
  • Participate in planning and organisation of tournaments and special events such as Sports Day, Terry Fox Run, Jump Rope for Heart, G5 ISEA play days, etc.
  • Support Outdoor Education trips and activities as needed
  • Provide supervision for students during recess, lunch, and after school, and occasional class coverage, as assigned.
  • Help coordinate and run intramurals in the Junior School
  • Work closely with colleagues, including the personal counsellor and learning strategies team, to provide the highest possible level of personalised care and support
  • Establish strong, positive relationships with students while fostering a healthy environment for active living and sport

  • Design and implement a range of authentic formative and summative assessments, providing appropriate and timely feedback to students
  • Use our learning management system, Toddle, to maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress for the purposes of teaching, learning and reporting
  • Participate in faculty and parent meetings and special events
  • Model respectful and timely communication with students, colleagues and parents
  • Attend professional development workshops as required by the school

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or in possession of a valid work visa)
  • Must have current British Columbia teacher certification, or be willing and able to attain certification before commencing
  • Minimum of two years of successful experience teaching Physical and Health Education to children in and Early Years environment (ages 3-5)
  • Hold or be willing to obtain an age appropriate First Aid Certificate
  • Hold a Class IV driverʼs licence or the commitment to attain one

Preferred Experience and Qualities:

  • Demonstrated an understanding of and passion for Physical Health Education, coaching, and the Teaching Games for Understanding framework (TGFU)
  • Demonstrated understanding for teaching physical literacy and movement skills in EY
  • Familiarity with the BC PHE curriculum and experience teaching PHE in the IB PYP
  • NCCP coaching certification, training, and experience coaching in Mulhgrave’s core sports
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience teaching dance in a school, camp, or studio setting
