Lead the Future of One of Canada’s Most Respected and Dynamic Universities
The University of New Brunswick recognizes and respectfully acknowledges that the University of New Brunswick stands on the unsurrendered and unceded traditional Wolastoqey land.
The University of New Brunswick (UNB) offers a rare opportunity to lead a research-intensive university with deep provincial impact, a highly collegial culture, and the ability to effect meaningful institutional change. It is with this context that UNB is seeking an inspiring and strategic leader to serve as its next President and Vice Chancellor. This is an exceptional opportunity to guide one of Canada’s oldest universities—an institution with more than 235 years of history, a strong academic reputation, and a deep commitment to advancing education, research, and innovation for the benefit of New Brunswick, Canada, and the world.
Located in Canada’s only officially bilingual province, with campuses in Fredericton and Saint John, and a significant nursing program in Moncton, UNB is a comprehensive research university known for its strengths in business, law, computer science, engineering, nursing, science, and the liberal arts. UNB is recognized for its collegial culture, impactful research, and strong partnerships with industry, Indigenous leaders and communities, government, and community organizations. Through teaching, discovery, and engagement, UNB plays a vital role in shaping the economic, social, and technological future of the province and the Atlantic region.
Reporting to the Board of Governors and working closely with the Senates, Deans Council, senior leadership team, and student leaders, the President and Vice Chancellor will provide visionary and inclusive leadership for the University. Building on recent momentum, the President will guide the continued implementation of institutional priorities, strengthen UNB’s national and global profile, and position the University to thrive in an evolving higher education landscape.
The President will serve as UNB’s principal ambassador and advocate, strengthening relationships with governments, Indigenous leaders and communities, industry partners, donors, alumni, community leaders, and other post-secondary institutions. As a visible and accessible leader, the President will foster a culture of empathy, collaboration, collegial governance, and shared purpose across faculty, staff, and students while advancing academic excellence, research impact, and an exceptional student experience.
Working closely with the Provost, Deans Council and senior leadership team, the President will support continued growth in research and innovation, expand experiential learning opportunities, support enrollment growth and student retention, and strengthen partnerships that contribute to economic, scientific, societal, and technological development. The President will also ensure the University’s financial sustainability and support strategic investments that enhance UNB’s academic mission and long-term impact.
An accomplished and collaborative leader, the next President will demonstrate significant, successful senior leadership experience in a complex organization, ideally within higher education. They will possess strong strategic and financial acumen, a commitment to academic excellence and student success, and the ability to lead institutional change in a collegial environment. Experience engaging with governments, Indigenous leaders and communities, industry partners, and philanthropic communities will be an important asset, as is the ability to communicate in both official languages.
This is a unique opportunity to lead a respected and dynamic university at an important moment in its history. The next President & Vice Chancellor will have the opportunity to build on UNB’s strong foundation, strengthen its impact across the province and beyond, and help shape the future of Atlantic Canada.
