The position

Procurement Contracting Lead – Commercial & Corporate Services

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

Healthcare is evolving, and Global Procurement is responding by continuously striving for the highest possible performance, taking innovative and strategic approaches to business and supplier partnerships. Global Procurement proactively manages the entire supplier ecosystem, making a vital contribution to improving health outcomes, reducing costs for patients and global healthcare systems, and ensuring that Roche continues doing now what patients need next.

The Opportunity:

This role sits within the Indirect Procurement Delivery group, which covers the core procurement activities from category management, strategic and operational sourcing, supplier management, contracting, content strategy definition, and execution. The Indirect Procurement Delivery group comprises many communities grouping categories of the same value chain or having commonality, including Research & Development, Commercial and Corporate Services, Digital & Technology, and Facilities. The communities are key enablers of strong category expertise while allowing flexibility in the procurement delivery response to the evolving needs of our customers.

As a Contracts Lead in Commercial & Corporate Services, you will bring significant contract drafting and negotiation skills, and deep understanding of applicable laws, policies and regulations, to the procurement contract management and advisory capability area. Using your specialized knowledge and in-depth expertise in contract management and procurement overall, you will help to ensure contracting that best manages business, legal and compliance risks, while driving pragmatic solutions to help internal stakeholders avoid unnecessary or burdensome processes and delays.

You will drive collaboration with procurement and business stakeholders, supporting their contracting needs by creating and providing tools, templates, playbooks, advice and counsel, and assistance with complex drafting and negotiating, enabling efficient and compliant contracting.

In addition, you will work actively with the Contracting Capability Lead to ensure contracts, tools, templates, playbooks, and positions are in line with legal requirements, Roche policies, and company needs as well as suggest enhancements and updates based upon legal and financial risk identified during business and stakeholder discussions and third party negotiations.

You will lead and manage a small to medium sized procurement contracting team, managing resource assignment and talent development to optimize overall resource utilization for your Delivery team while ensuring alignment with the overall Capability approach and priorities as well as team member competencies and development needs.

You will work closely with other team members, as a peer coach, project or workstream lead and/or as a team lead to develop solutions to highly complex problems and challenges, embed best practices such as enhancement and development of services, tools, templates, playbooks, processes, as well as implement simplified reporting requirements and service excellence.

As the Contracts Lead in Commercial & Corporate Services utilising independent judgement, you will play a variety of roles according to your experience, knowledge, and general business requirements, including but not limited to these core responsibilities:

  • You are a contracting domain knowledge and subject matter expert in Commercial & Corporate Services providing specialist input, advice, assistance, and in-depth know-how with complex scientific, commercial and/or technical contract drafting and negotiating activities.
  • You are a contract drafter and negotiator – using functional, technical and/or operational expertise to draft highly complex contractual provisions and demonstrating mastery with negotiation and influencing skills for both non-sourceable (either fully or in support of the business’ self service) and, partnering with Procurement Delivery professionals, highly complex sourceable contracts.
  • You develop contracts “Best Practice”, and act as a visionary and driver for the development, improvement, and delivery of templates, playbooks, and training to procurement, the business, and other stakeholders.

Who you are:

  • You possess a JD or other advanced legal degree or equivalent experience
  • You have 12+ years of related business experience or 7+ years with JD or other advanced legal degree, PhD, or Masters.
  • You have experience as a people leader preferably in a matrix organisation.
  • You possess strong technical skills including Legal and Compliance subject matter expertise with significant delegation of authority.
  • You demonstrate curiosity, active listening and a willingness to experiment and test new ideas when appropriate, with the focus very much on continuous learning and improvement.
  • You are open-minded and inclusive, generously sharing ideas and knowledge, while being receptive to ideas and feedback from others.
  • You are fluent in English to a Business level.

Join our team and enable the strong capability expertise needed to meet the evolving needs of our customers.
