The Branch allows ministries to meet program goals by leading or facilitating cost effective procurement and contract management in alignment with trade agreements and provincial legislation.We are recruiting a Procurement Manager in the Corporate Purchasing unit to lead our work in supply arrangements.Role ResponsibilitiesAre you looking for your next leadership opportunity in the public service? We are hiring a manager to lead supplies procurements across the Government of Alberta (GoA).Reporting to the Director, Corporate Purchasing, the Procurement Manager will:
- Lead a team of Purchasing Officers to acquire and manage a wide variety of supply arrangement contracts.
- Leverage your relationship-building and planning abilities to coordinate with purchasing clients across the GoA, with the goal of anticipating their needs.
- Work closely with your colleagues, including the Manager responsible for GoA ad hoc procurement, to determine the best go-to-market strategy and RFx approach for each acquisition.
- Write briefing notes to provide advice for executive leadership about contracting and procurement matters; and
- Know your portfolio inside and out, and report on it effectively.
To successfully lead your team as the Procurement Manager, you need to:
- Have experience managing contracts in a public sector contract, in alignment with trade agreements, government legislation and purchasing policies.
- Have (or be able to develop) user expertise in a complex Enterprise Resource Planning IT system (1GX).
- Be a great communicator, who is organized and attentive to details.
- Approach your portfolio with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Understand and appreciate the need to balance individual priorities against broader goals.
- Look for ways to be proactive and influence even without positional authority; and
- Know who to talk to and the sequencing of actions to produce effective, efficient and innovative results in the public service.

Other Requirements:
- Understanding of trade agreements, public sector purchasing practices, and supply chain management principles.
- Experience managing contracts in a public sector environment.
The following are considered assets:
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience navigating the Government of Alberta’s 1GX system.
- Professional purchasing certification (e.g. SCMP or similar).
- A proven record of striving for continuous improvements and organizing initiatives to reach completion.
- Knowledge of the organizational and decision-making structures in the public service.
- Exceptional communication skills and attention to detail.
