The Regional Director, Retail Sales and Service Support (RSS) is responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership and oversight for the regional Field Specialist team, ensuring business strategies, initiatives and specific goals are executed and delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Lead a team of in-field coaching specialists, who provide customer-focused, holistic needs-based coaching to retail branch staff in an assigned region for all retail products and services
    • Cultivate and support a knowledge based, performance driven culture throughout their RSS team to help branch staff deepen and expand client relationships to drive primary banking relationships and drive profitable growth and market share
    • Responsible for driving net growth in Retail Banking products
    • Focused on a needs based approach to customer conversations, enabling the branches to deliver an excellent customer experience (based on the Net Promoter Score results)
  • Lead the planning, execution and local reporting of coaching activities within the assigned region by:
    • Supporting the Field Specialist team in defining the branch visit strategy and how they can assist the branches achieve their performance targets and required business mix
    • Partnering with the RSS Inside Specialist team to develop accurate and actionable reporting, identify trends to drive positive outcomes and implementing course correction for the regional RSS team, when required
  • Work with the 2 Regional SVPs, District Vice Presidents, Director, Regional Banking etc from Toronto and Ontario Regions to plan regional coaching, sharing responsibility with regional management for sales and revenue growth
    • Build strong relationships within the regional leadership team to understand business strategy and regional and district specific coaching opportunities.
    • Exhibit strong strategic influencing competency in interactions with key internal partners
  • Work with the Director, Sales Support and other RSS management team members to plan and enhance coaching effectiveness by providing feedback and insights from the Region’s Retail Banking network
    • Contribute to the development and management of the annual regional profit plan, including insights that can be shared with Regional leadership team related to improving branch knowledge and capabilities to achieve sales and activity targets
    • Partner with the Sales Support team to understand monthly coaching activities and sales results, identify opportunities to enhance branch sales officers’ knowledge and capabilities and improve coaching and, in consultation with the regional leadership team, share actionable feedback with the Field Specialists
  • Lead and develop a team of Field Specialists by:
    • Conducting observational coaching, regular touch-bases, skill-building sessions and other feedback and instruction
    • Ensuring an expert level of product knowledge exists on the team
    • Effectively executing the various Bank-wide employee development programs, including coaching, development and performance management (i.e. APPs, EDPs, iLead, etc.)
  • Collaborate effectively with branch partners (eg. Scotia Wealth Management, Scotia Asset Management, , etc); identifying, initiating and directing tactical responses to negative trends and business opportunities
  • Create an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to all of the Bank’s risks, including operational risk, regulatory and compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, and including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct
  • Build a high performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating Scotiabank’s vision/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Commerce or Business preferred
  • Knowledge of Retail Banking products and related policies, processes, systems and tools
  • Considerable knowledge of retail distribution channels (minimum ten years’ experience)
  • Strong sales management and leadership skills are essential
  • Thorough knowledge of Canada’s financial services industry and marketplace and the customer segments within it
  • Expert coaching ability, requiring effective behavioural observation, and ability to have challenging conversations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to motivate and influence outcomes, actions and decisions
  • Working knowledge of products and services offered by other financial institutions and niche competitors and their competitive positioning within the market
  • Mutual Funds License or Canadian Securities Course
