Your Opportunity
Stantec seeks an ambitious Remote Sensing Specialist to join our Alberta Geomatics Team. This team serves a diverse clientele, including federal, provincial, and municipal governments, as well as clients in urban and transportation planning, infrastructure development, and the energy industry. Our Remote Sensing Specialists leverage remote sensing and data management at various scales to provide these clients with project-specific insights and deliverables that add value beyond simple data collection. While reporting directly to the Geomatics Sector Lead, you will provide GIS support and remote sensing consultancy services to both external clients and internal Stantec teams. The ideal candidate for this role understands that geomatics is a rapidly evolving discipline and is committed to active, ongoing learning to maintain and develop comprehensive data management skills.
Your Key Responsibilities
Collect and analyze remote sensing data from a wide spectrum of sources including aerial, drone, IOT, terrestrial, and satellite platforms.
Work with Geomatics engineers and to process and interpret imagery, develop workflows and automation, identify use cases and quality processes, and integrate with a data analytics team to extract relevant information for diverse applications.
Collaborate with subject matter experts, scientists, engineers, and policy makers to address specific data derivative needs.
Prepare portals, reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings and insights.
Develop and maintain documentation for remote sensing processes and data analysis.
Provide high-quality GIS and other software application support and consulting services to clients, adhering to project budgets, timelines, and quality control standards.
Provide project updates and data metrics throughout project lifecycles.
Collaborate with surveyors, engineers, reality capture managers, and field teams regarding geospatial data collection methodology, error mitigation, and use of data best practices.
Support at scale data management architecture and infrastructure initiatives to better store, analyze, aggregate, and collate data.
Interface with IT professionals to ensure data security and corporate compliance policies are.
Ensure all collection and management of data is aligned with the professional practice of engineering, guarantees high accuracy and integrity, and is defensible.
Support automation and efficiency objectives for data processing and use.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Technical training and experience in GIS mapping, geospatial analysis, and geographic principles.
Experience with remote sensing software, such as the ESRI suite, ENVI, and PCI Catalyst.
Familiarity with municipal, provincial, and federal datasets.
Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple concurrent assignments.
Proven data management skills, from project inception and data ingestion, to deliverables production.
Ability to adhere to cartographic standards while effectively communicating complex information.
Experience working within an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Working knowledge of various environmental disciplines, such as agriculture, mining, and site reclamation.
Demonstrated history of business development and client interaction, value added consultancy services, tool development, automation and optimization, and proven innovation strategist.
Preferred
Experience delivering GIS products and analytical solutions.
Programming experience with Python.
Experience with LiDAR and multispectral raster data.
Experience with image analysis software.
Experience with FME ModelBuilder.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics Engineering, Remote Sensing, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Minimum 4 years of work experience in a GIS/Remote Sensing environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PEng or EIT
