Login to your McGill Workday account and apply to this posting using the Find Jobs report (type Find Jobs in the search bar).Job description:This position is part of a SSHRC-funded Partnership Grant to address sexual violence on university campuses across Canada and internationally under the supervision of Professor Shaheen Shariff.Qualifications and Research Interests:We seek to hire law students at Master of Laws, or Undergraduate.Experience with case law briefing and analysis; policy analysis, constitutional and human rights law, tort law, privacy rights/harm and some understanding of international law, rights conventions.Interest in balancing free expression rights with regulation of offensive speech, especially online forms of sexual harassment, non-consensual distribution of intimate images, discrimination, diversity, equity, social media movements and their societal impacts.Interest in social media and regulation, reduction, prevention of offensive online speech and related forms of media-based violence and harassment.Required skills and duties:Engage in legal research of statutory and case law under Project A (Education, Law and Policy). One of you will work directly with PI Shariff in Faculty of Education.Engage in literature reviews of law journals and related legal academic publications.Co-write and/or edit research articles for publication in top tier journals.Co-write and edit policy briefs, white papers, and op-eds.Support PI in preparing for and accompany her to government advisory boards and committee meetings where possible, helping with French translation.Engage in comparative analysis of community standards and content policies established by social media platforms (SMPs) with Canadian and International law, working with iMPACTS researchers led by PI Shariff, Co-investigators, graduate and post-graduate researchers.Assess regulatory processes (such as outsourcing and algorithms), and implementation of community standards by SMPs, drawing on scholarly literature and legal research.Help develop legal toolkits and training material.Present the project at (online) seminars, conferences, and workshops, or face to face as safety conditions dictate during the pandemicBecome an active contributing member of the iMPACTS research team.Additional qualifying skills and abilities:Experience with quantitative methods and quantitative analysisKnowledge of Lime Survey, SPSS, NVIVO, and other similar softwarePedagogical experience, such as developing educational materials, teaching university-level courses, facilitating workshops, and mentoring studentsKnowledge mobilization experience, such as conference presentations, op-eds, media interviews, community-based programs, etc.Experience working in educational settings and community organizationsExperience editing and publishing non-academic reportsAdvocacy work, especially related to supporting victims/survivors of sexual violenceFamiliarity with Canadian law and policy (and university sexual violence policies), an assetFluency in French, an assetContract Start and End dates: April 1, 2025 – June 30, 2025Immediate Supervisor: Professor Shaheen ShariffStatus: Part-timeWork schedule/hours: 8 hours per weekHourly Rate: $29.21This position will be made available for applications for five (5) working days once it is posted on Workday.This position is covered by the Association of McGill University Research Employees (AMURE) collective agreement.Hourly Salary: $29.21Hours per Week: 8 (Part time)Location: Education BuildingSupervisor: ProfessorPosition Start Date: 2025-04-01Position End Date: 2025-06-30Deadline to Apply: 2025-04-17This position is covered by the Association of McGill University Research Employees (AMURE) collective agreement.McGill University hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community.
