The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading academic and research activities in the realm of translation, bilingualism in Canada, minority languages, language policies, language management, official language minority communities, and access to justice in both official languages.Key responsibilitiesAcademic activities:Develop new courses for the GDLT or other relevant programs, utilizing existing content and creating innovative materials (i.e. introduction to translation and advanced revision)Participate in other relevant academic activities, including the courses and program review, the continuing education initiative, the alliance initiative, identification and pursuit of grant opportunitiesAssist in crafting grant proposals to secure funding for future curriculum development at SCS/McGillResearch activities:Lead research initiatives, including one project on sociology of legal translation in Canada, and assist in other research initiatives, including two projects on IA and justice, and Access to justice ecosystem. The work involves ongoing collaboration and validation from stakeholders and application of applied and engaged research principles as part of the followings:Supervise research assistants as necessaryConduct surveys, field trips, interviews and other data-gathering activitiesAnalyze gathered data and present results in reports, scientific papers and conferencesDevelop and implement a research mobilization plan to ensure effective dissemination of findingsAttend key meetings and events with stakeholdersPrepare documentation as required by working groups and maintain an organized online archive or relevant materialsFoster communications within the groups and maintain productive partnerships with external collaboratorsSupport the drafting of reports and the preparation of presentations to showcase project progressAssist in crafting grant proposals to secure funding for future initiatives in the fields of translation, bilingualism in Canada, minority languages, language policies, language management, official language minority communities, and access to justice in both official languagesAdditional expectationsThe role entails close collaboration with key stakeholders in the Canadian legal language industry. The candidate should be prepared to adapt to evolving project needs and contribute creatively to the success of the GDLT, other relevant programs and their initiatives.QualificationsPhD degree (completed or submitted dissertation) in translationKnowledge in translation, bilingualism in Canada, minority languages, language policies, language management, official language minority communities, and access to justice in both official languagesAt least five years of experience in research in translation, bilingualism in Canada, minority languages, language policies, language management, official language minority communities, and access to justice in both official languagesAdvanced knowledge of French and English.
