The research associate will conduct research in knowledge synthesis of prescription drugs, laboratory tests, and related health interventions. The work will involve systematic reviews and related analyses of the evidence on the benefits and harms of pharmaceutical, therapeutic, and health system interventions and participating in the translation of knowledge in service of fostering more effective health services. The research associate will report directly to Dr. Ken Bassett, TI Co-Managing Director, and Dr. Wade Thompson, lead of the TI Evidence Synthesis Unit, and will work closely with other faculty members, project managers, and staff. The TI Evidence Synthesis Unit includes the Drug Assessment Working Group (DAWG), Cochrane Hypertension Group (CHG), TI-initiated projects and grant funded projects.Qualifications
The qualified candidate must hold doctorate degrees in medicine and clinical pharmacology with experience as a practicing physician. Additional education and training in specialty medicine or biostatistics is a strong asset. Minimum of five years experience in knowledge synthesis with a strong research publication record. The candidate should have advanced knowledge of systematic review methods, meta-analysis, meta-epidemiology as well as training in the application of knowledge translation practices. This should include the demonstrated ability to carry out analyses ensuring both benefits and harms of interventions are elucidated. Critical appraisal skills of the application of hierarchies of health outcomes and hierarchies of evidence are required. Familiarity with a range of epidemiological and intervention trial designs is also needed. Experience with guideline development is an asset. The candidate should have the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team of scientists, professionals, and consumer representatives in a synergistic and productive manner.Duties· Protocol development of knowledge synthesis based on systematic reviews of clinical trial evidence and epidemiological studies;· Conduct of systematic reviews, in collaboration with a broader professional, consumer and academic research team;· Critical appraisal of the research evidence, including a range of research designs;· Presentation of research findings to Ministry of Health senior executives and to the scientific community at national and international conferences;· Writing of summary reports, research abstracts and manuscripts, and publication of articles in peer-reviewed journals;· Knowledge translation by participating in TI educational activities for healthcare professionals;· Identification and pursuit of secondary research projects and research funding;· Other duties as required.Duration and Salary:
The start date is September 1, 2025 for an initial appointment of 2 years. The annual salary is set at $100,000 for 4 days of work per week (0.8 FTE).Application
