Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)Description:About Us:The Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto is an outstanding professional faculty that ranks among the premier nursing programs in the world in both education and research.Your Opportunity:Kimberley Widger, Professor and Canada Research Chair in Pediatric Palliative Care at the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time Research Associate (Limited Term) to design and lead research projects in the area of Pediatric Palliative Care. Specifically, projects include knowledge translation activities related to early referrals to pediatric palliative care and parent perspectives on care for children with medical complexity, and other research about the current state of specialized pediatric palliative care delivery and childhood grief services in Canada.Candidates must show evidence of their ability to develop an independent research program and to independently direct projects – particularly projects which include qualitative methods, implementation science, and patient engagement. Previous supervisory and teaching experience is essential for the successful candidate to contribute to the guidance of trainees. Experience preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-review journals, contributing to the development of research proposals to granting agencies, and presenting findings at local, national, or international conferences is also required.Job duties:

• Participate in weekly lab meetings
• Design, plan, and execute research projects
• Conduct data analysis using statistical and qualitative analysis packages
• Write research results into manuscript format
• Assist in grant writing
• Present findings at internal and external conferences
• Contribute to the mentorship and training of graduate and undergraduate students and junior researchers (qualitative research knowledge and skills, writing and oral presentation skills, and professional development)

• Liaise with collaborators and assist in the compilation, analysis and reporting of research findings to knowledge users
• Work collaboratively with all members in the lab/ partners, including with multi-professional, multi-institutional teams

EDUCATION:· PhD in nursing, social work, public health, psychology, education or another related field in social sciences or health sciences.EXPERIENCE:

• At least 3-year postdoctoral research experience acquired as a postdoctoral fellow, research associate, equivalent or higher position in academic research, with demonstrated academic and research expertise in the field of pediatric palliative care using primarily qualitative methods.
• Demonstrated success in writing and preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and reports.
• Experience writing grants and funding applications.
• Experience working with patient partners.
• Demonstrated experience in mentoring and training graduate students and/or research staff.
• Strong knowledge of pediatric palliative care in Canada.

SKILLS:

• Demonstrated proficiency in NVivo, statistics packages, and MS Office (Excel and Word).

• Advanced training in qualitative analysis.

OTHER:

• Ability to lead a project and co-ordinate a small group of researchers.
• Proven ability to apply critical and analytical thinking.
• Strong written and oral English communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Self-motivated with ability to multi-task.
• A good team player who works collaboratively and thrives in a dynamic environment.
