Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.Job SummaryThe Pacific Rim Initiative for Sustainable Marine Systems (PRISMS), a newly funded UBC Grants for Catalyzing Research Clusters (GCRC) initiative, seeks a dynamic and motivated Cluster Research Coordinator. This interdisciplinary research network brings together scholars from engineering, ocean science, ecology, Indigenous studies, and public policy to catalyze sustainable solutions for Canada’s maritime and coastal challenges. The successful candidate will manage diverse cluster activities and partnerships, contribute in the development of large-scale research proposals, and facilitate events and knowledge exchange.Organizational StatusThe Cluster Research Coordinator reports to the Cluster Lead (Professor Rajeev Jaiman) and works closely with the cluster’s co-leads and collaborators across UBC and partner institutions.Work PerformedThe successful candidate will offer broad support to the key cluster members of the Cluster, both in terms of setting and building consensus around strategy, developing and implementing operational plan. Consequence of Error/JudgementThis position requires strong professional judgement, initiative, and accountability. Errors in communication, coordination, or reporting could negatively impact the cluster’s visibility, funding prospects, and stakeholder trust. Mismanagement of timelines or failure to adhere to UBC’s ethical, Indigenous, and EDI protocols may harm institutional relationships or compromise external engagements. The Coordinator must represent PRISMS with professionalism and uphold high standards of academic integrity, confidentiality, and cultural respect in all cluster-related activities.Supervision ReceivedThe coordinator will work independently with general guidance from the Cluster co-Leads. The co-Leads will provide strategic direction, support on priorities, and oversight for key deliverables including grant proposals, reports, and public events. Regular check-ins and milestone reviews will ensure alignment and progress.Supervision Given
May provide guidance to student assistants or trainees involved in PRISMS operations. This may include coordinating logistical tasks, assigning event roles, or reviewing communication drafts and cluster content.Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.– Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own– Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred QualificationsUndergraduate degree (or higher) in applied science/engineering discipline.
